S & W m 17-2 front sight replaceable?
hello,
just acquired a 17-2 22 revolver and it is really nice for the age (late 60's w 734xxx sn i think). The front sight (standard target) is a little dinged and i think if it is a simple proceedure and i can find one i would like to replace or upgrade to one of the other sight options that were offered on the gun... is this pretty simple to do? thanks for your insight. |

Well, no. It seems simple, but it is very easy to mar the front sight base and end up with an awful looking mess that involves polishing and rebluing the gun.* I think I would call S&W; they have the tools and the experience.
*Do not, repeat not, ask me how I know. Jim |

You might want to check out the Midway USA gunsmithing videos on Youtube. They have one out there where they install one of those colored epoxy inserts into a front sight that is just a plain ramp. Doesn't look too hard if you are handy with a few tools.
