3-9 or 4-12 scope for 7mm mag???

I am looking for a new scope for my 7mm mag. most of my shots will be in the 30 to about 350 yard range. would you recommend a 3-9 or a 4-12 scope?? gun is only used for deer hunting. thanks

I would go for a 4X fixed power. If you spend the same amount for a fixed power scope as a variable you will generally get better glass.

3x9. There has been a 7mm Mag rifle in my hunting rifle battery since 1970 and it/they have always worn a 3x9 Leupold. The other rifle was either a 6mm Rem or .25/06 and it also wore a 3x9 Leupold. Never had any problems with the scopes and never needed more power for hunting or sighting in. Hunting shots ranged from 50 yds to app 400 yds (once in West Tex). Actually I used 9X for sighting in dead on at 200 yds but set scope power to 3X-4X for close shots and 6X for long range shots. More than 6X power magnified my wobble too much. YMMV

Good shooting and be safe.

Definitely go 4-12. That's about as long range of a hunting rifle as you're gonna get. If anything needs something bigger than 3-9, that's it.

I've got a huge scope on my 7mm rem mag. Off the top of my head, its variable up to 18x or something crazy. The odd thing is, I never crank it over 9 power. A 3 x 9 is a perfect scope but a 4 x 12 will give you just a bit more if you need it. I'm actually in the market for a new scope and I plan on getting a 3 x 9 for a .308.

3-9x for sure. I'd get a Leupold. Generally speaking, you are buying extra weight that you have to lug around in powers you'll never use except sighting in the rifle or range shooting. I have never used the upper power settings for hunting. Most often the scope is set on 4x. Get what you want.
