44 Magnum in a "long" barrel
Not sure where to best post this but I'll start here,
I have a TC Contender in "Carbine" configuration ( Have the Pistol stock also but that's not where the question lies) I am limited to shooting at an indoor range with a max 25 Yard range and limited to "pistol" Calibers. I want to shoot the TC Contender in carbine fashion From a bench rest For accuracy With my own Handloaded Ammo. Intend to use a "good" scope Thought I might try to do this in .44 Rem Magnum but Looking at available ( used) "long = 16" plus)TC Barrels in 44 Magnum - I can NOT find ANY. Now I know I can order one new ( I can afford it) from TC - and others BUT The fact that I can find NONE out there, I'm starting to wonder if they are not around because it is a "bad idea". Is .44 Magnum a poor choice for a > 16" plus Barrel to be used at 25 Yards ?? What ( "Pistol Calibers - mind you") might be a better choice ?? What would be a "Good - but reasonably priced" scope? Mind you it needs to be adjustable to focus at 25 Yards ( I think this means an "Adjustable Objective")

get the 44 Mag if it is what you want. You can allways shoot 44 spl through it. and have the magnum availble if you need it for hunting or what ever. Also If the indoor range is the only place you plan on shooting ask them what they will allow. Hope this helps

Use .44 mag rifle loads. My old 24th Edition Lyman book has loads developed for a 20" barrel. Contact TC for chamberings. They make a 23" barrel for the Contender, but they don't list chamberings on their site. It does appear, though, that the longest barrel they make in .44 mag is 14".

Might I suggest you ask this question(s) on the Greybeard Forum...there is a great deal of solid information on T/C guns at this link.
Good luck!! Bob http://www.graybeardoutdoors.com/smf...oard,24.0.html
