Am I missing a large section of the serials?
Yes. There are lots of alphanumeric serial numbers not in the SCSW listings. You just have to assume that they are in alphabetical order and interpolate.

Thank you for the clarification! I will keep that in mind while looking. I may end up deciding to hold off on this search until I pick up the reference book.

Help with some S&W numbers

HI all, first post here. I came seeking information about some firearms in my grandmothers estate.

S&W 38 special CTG D9520**
S&W Model 638 CCF76**
S&W 6690 TVB69** also has special order number

I hear the 6690 is scarce and im definitely looking for information on it and possible values. Year of manufacture would be great on these though. Thanks for any help in asvance

According to the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson.
The first revolver listed D9520xx, was built 1976-1977 and was either a Model 10,or 12. Open the cylinder and look at the frame for model marking.

The Model 638 was built in 1997.

The 6690 Semi Auto was a special order by RSR Distributors, and as close as I can tell by the book, was built 1985-1988.

Based on the serial number and model information provided, your revolver was very likely made some time between 1856 and 2025.

Come on, John, they didn't make a .38 Special until 1899.

Mandomoe, we need at least the serial number from the bottom of the butt. Pictures would be good. If it is from the period 1915 until about 1942, I don't know of any free listing by year.
