What is the primary gun group in your state?

Is there a national organization of state gun groups who are politically active?
If not, there should be.

If you do have a state gun organization, what is its name and how often does your gun group meet and discuss tactics to overcome oppressive gun regulations in your cities, counties and state through the legislative process?

How often to you sit down with CCers, OCers, hunters, legislators and candidates in one room to discuss gun issues in your city, county and state?

We do it every month at our Idaho Carry dinner meetings at Fuddruckers and last night we had 112 in attendance with our Deputy Attorney General, 2 state representatives and several candidates. We are changing hearts and minds in Idaho.

I’m a Washington DC transplant. Born and raised there for 21 years and then stayed in California for 30 years before moving back to DC where I spent the last 15 years living under the oppression of a totally anti-gun DC government.

I moved to Idaho and discovered that there were no statewide Idaho gun organizations other than the NRA and GOA and neither of those groups were actively addressing the increasing anti-gun policies being introduced in our cities and counties.

I started Idaho Carry Open & Concealed 2 years ago and we now have members in every county and city in Idaho, and we are gearing up our www.2ndAmendment2014.com site to identify our pro-gun candidates in state races.

Although half of our members Conceal Carry, we do have OC members who are little on the fringe side and see no problem walking down the street in rural areas with an AR15 on their back. We have in depth, heavy discussions about those practices in Idaho and over time, we have been able to persuade most of them that it is more important to win someone’s heart and mind to OC, and that can best be accomplished best by OCing a handgun while sharply dressed, displaying a friendly demeanor and engaging in pro-gun conversations with those who address you.

From what I've read recently, it appears that there are some who think that addressing the all out assault by anti-gun groups can best be addressed severally without including all 2nd Amendment friendly groups in a state, not recognizing that we can better influence our elected officials with a broader organization.

Here is a link to photos from our 2nd Amendment Rally at our Capitol last winter. We will be holding another this January. It is this kind of rally organized by CCers & OCers and hunters that will bring unity.

I am also working with the paralegal from Idaho AG's office to obtain reciprocity from about 25 states that are holding out. That is one of the reasons I would like to solicit from those here, the contact information for large state gun groups. We want to engage them in the reciprocity process if they are willing.

In Georgia the group Georgia Carry has been pretty effective at the legislature, in the courts and the media. They hold an annual conference, send out weekly emails, and set up booths at various firearms related venues.

None it seem to me in Alabama. We have a couple of groups vying for attention. Their main emphasis seems to be on open carry. They boast about how much influence that they had in passing Alabama's new and "sweeping" gun law reform. This law ended up taking away some of our gun rights. For example, law enforcement is using the new law to encourage schools to post their entire property (Not just the buildings), saying that you cannot even have a firearm in you car in the parking lot. Under the old laws, a concealed carry permit allowed the bearer to carry inside the school building. The banning of firearms in the building part doesn't bother me, BUT IN YOUR CAR IN THE PARKING LOT???? Many gun buster signs are now starting to appear in businesses (and schools) across the state since the new law.

VCDL: Virginia Citizens Defense League... an organization who's hard work in this state has resulted in the following in the JUST THE PAST 3 YEARS!!!:

Repeal the local fingerprint requirement for CHP applicants
Prevent localities from banning firearms in personal vehicles while at work
Prevent localities from requiring extraneous info on CHP applications
Prevent gun bans during states of emergency
Repealed Virginia's One Handgun a Month rationing scheme huge victory
Allow a CHP to be used as ID for elections
Repeal the restaurant ban my personal favorite
Allows a CHP renewal to be done through the mail

The rest of VCDL accomplishments can be viewed here:
http://www.vcdl.org/accom

Everybody should be on notice about Virginia... we are Bloombergs' PRIMARY TARGET right now. He has bought off Terry Mcauliffe who is running for Governor, who has vowed to turn Virginia into the next Colorado. If you own guns and live in VA, you NEED to be a member of VCDL... it's simply a MUST! If you live outside of VA, know that we have been fighting a huge anti-gun push recently and if Mcauliffe is elected will soon be fighting a battle that if lost, I am certain you will all feel... please consider a membership, or perhaps donate to the legal arm of VCDL-PAC:

Along with www.isra.org the Illinois State Rifle Association, I'd add www.illinoiscarry.com it was very instrumental in getting carry legislation passed and when it started working with ISRA on the Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day the attendance grew greatly, this year it was about 5000 people that went to the capital to Lobby for Concealed Carry legislation. Illinois Carry has worked for the past 10 years on getting carry legislation.

I'd encourage Illinois folks to join the Illinoiscarry.com forum to keep up to date on legislation good and bad that is being introduced in the legislature.

I agree both ISRA and Illinois Carry are instrumental in Illinois, I would also like to single out Todd Vandermyde our states NRA lobbyist as being absolutely instrumental to the protection and expansion of our 2A rights in Illinois.

Seriously, if every state had someone like Todd the antis wouldn't stand a chance. He is our pro gun super man.

WayneinFl, I believe Florida Open Carry is just the Facebook group for Florida Carry, Inc. -- not two separate groups.

I'm sure you see me on the Florida Open Carry page often enough if that's the one you're referring to. Those are the guys that came to mind immediately when I read the question.

In Texas, we have the TSRA, Texas State Rifle Assoc., which works with the NRA ...

www.tsra.com

I also belong to the Texas Concealed Handgun Assoc., a group which includes both those of us licensed to carry and the instructors who handle training.

Dudley and his goons are idiots. They were making threats against a state senator that was against the new gun laws the dems were pushing.

In Kansas I would say it is The Kansas State Rifle Association. Patricia Stoneking is the president and they do a great job of keeping the membership up to date on what is going and representations the firearms community.
