Hornday Superformance, and the .308 Win....

I've heard relatively little about anyone having success with this powder; I'm guessing there must be a reason?

Hornady makes their 178 grain BTHP Match ammo with this powder, and "advertise" impressive MV's.

Now, I understand that it's advertised as more of a "caliber specific" powder...but given that Hornady uses it in their .308 ammo, why does Hodgdon not provide load data for this powder with the .308?

Slower powder than Varget, seems like it might be interesting for the heavier bullets like the 178 that Hornady loads with it.

Anyone with experience with Superformance powder (or even the factory ammo) and the .308, and is Hodgdon hiding load data for this somewhere?

It's not really "caliber specific" but it seems that Hodgdon only publishes data for it if it beats all other powders in velocity.

Right now, their published data shows 22-250, 243Win, 6mmRem, 243WSSM, 25WSSM, .280, .30-06, .300RCM and .300WSM.

I read somewhere that Hornady Superformance ammo doesn't even always use Superformance powder, no idea if that's true or not.

They certainly load Superformance ammo in more cartridges than Hodgdon posts data for.

My friend, shooting 150 gr. Superformance in a 26" barrel, was getting an average of about 3, 025 fps.

Acuracy was very good.

Have not verified this but LGS told me Superformance powder was being pulled due to it being too hot and too much pressure.

Also this powder is not what is in their loaded ammo just a marketing thing to get people to buy into it from stuff I have seen/heard

PowerPro 2000-MR advertises some impressive numbers too, as well as AR-Comp and TAC. At least compared to some of the older powders.

Been searching for load data on superformance powder myself. I talked to a Hornady tech and was told Hogdon powder is not the same.

When I've found sweet loads for almost all my different calibers using Varget and still have about 3 lbs left. I dont see a need to change right now.
