44 mag load info needed
Hey guys looking for some ideas to try for a load that will duplicate a 44-40 rifle load.I am casting using a Lee 429-200-RF.Will be used in a 7.5" SBH and I want to keep the velocity in the 1200 to 1300 fps range.Powders that I have on hand are 2400,Red Dot,Green Dot,Herco,HP-38,and Unique.I also have some mag powders on hand but don't think they would be suitable. Thanks Russ

That velocity is not unusual for near max loads with most pistol powders.
I don't like to post my loads on public forums but would suggest you simply look in reloading manuals under the powders you have and use the one that matches. |

Winchester Super-X 44-40 WCF 200 gr soft point is advertised as being 1190 fps.
For an equivalent .44 Mag load with a 200 gr cast bullet at 1200 try 12.7 of Unique. From Lyman data for Unique and bullet mold #429303 at 200 gr: 11.0 gr for 1035 fps at 22,100 CUP to 13.2 gr for 1265 fps at 36,700 CUP |
