Favorite .22LR handgun?

I have a Walther ppq .22 tactical ordered looking forward to shooting it.

At the moment it's a step back in time .... to the old West of the 1873 era
A Single Action Ruger Wrangler , 6 shots , fixed sights and about as un-tactical as it gets .
But I grew up in 50's - 70's watching Westerns , big screen movies ...Shane , High Noon , etc and then the TV shows and I always wanted a 4 5/8" barreled SAA Gunfighter quick draw revolver ... the dealer had a all black Wrangler for $199 and the cowboy / gunfighter jumped out and bought it . It's not a 45 Colt or 44-40 ... but a 22 LR ... That's Okay ... it will do just fine . That short barreled SAA revolver is even doing nightstand duty ... no bad guys had betterr try to rob this stagecoach !

My 1957 pre-17 K22 and S&W M&P 22 compact. Two totally different guns with different purposes that fulfill my 22 rimfire wants and needs.

Picking the favorite 22 handgun would be like picking your favorite child.

The one I shoot the most "at the moment" would be my 6" S&W 617-10 shooter. I shoot steel challenge with it. It replaced my S&W 617-6 Shooter that I owned forever.

Then we have my Ruger MK IV Target, which replaced my Ruger MK III Target. The Mark IV was a major up grade in my opinion. Again mostly used for Steel Challenge.

Then we have my Super 14 Contender. I have owned it for Thirty or so years. It has the same Burris scope as my Deer Hunting Centerfire Contender's. Great practice handgun.

I have been upgrading my Hunting Handguns to Nosler M48's the last few months. The Nosler M48 is a Center Grip, Right Bolt, Right Port, Single Shot, Handgun. Pretty much a modern version of the Remington XP100.
For a Practice Handgun to go with the Nosler M48, I am in the middle of building an XP100 Center Grip, Single Shot in 22LR.
I am doing the build with a new Remington 40X Single Shot Target Action from the Remington Custom Shop. I will be using a Rockwell Center Grip Stock in Nutmeg Laminate. I have a slightly used Factory Remington XP100 Trigger Assembly that will have the Trigger Link lengthened for the 700 SA Footprint which is 1/2" longer than the original Remington 600/XP100 Action. For a Barrel I am using a takeoff 40X Bull Barrel, shortened on both ends and rechambered. It will probably be 15" when completed. When I bought the Barrel I was hoping that it would have Remington stamped on it. From what I have learned it looks like the Commercial Barrels were the only ones marked. This one apparently was off a Military Contract Rifle. For a scope it will have the same Weaver 2.5-10X Classic Extreme that is on my Deer Hunting M48 in 6.5 Creedmoor. I am waiting on the Rockwell Stock and Remington Action at the moment. The XP100 22LR will have pretty much the same feel, same operation Right Bolt/Right Port as my M48's and the same Scope with the same Eye Relief. Did I mention that this is a lot cheaper to feed, and I do not have to reload for it.

I use them all for different purposes, so picking only one of the four would be very hard.

Add me to the Ruger Mark group here. I own several Mark Is and Mark IIs, and IMO there isn't a better all-around 22LR handgun. Super accurate, super reliable, and it's unstoppable. Not the prettiest, but not ugly. Not the absolutely most accurate, but you'd have to look hard to find one more accurate at anywhere near the price. I don't own one of the newer Rugers, but I sure like the mag release on the Mk 3 and Mk 4.

My very first gun in 1966 was a Ruger Standard. i used that gun to reach NRA Bullseye Master. My son now has the gun but it is still my favorite.

I currently have 5 Ruger MKs including a MK1 several MK2s and a MK4. I like all of them.

I have several S&W revolvers including the Model 17, 34 and 617. I also use the S&W Model 41 with the 5.5" extendable front sight and another 41 with the 7" barrel. All of these guns shoot great.

The gun in my video is an Advantage Arms conversion kit on a Glock gen 3 frame. It is my favorite gun to show people what an unmodified Glock with iron (plastic) sights will do.

I started to answer this question several times, but the truth finally dawned on me . . . my favorite 22 is the one I'm shooting at the moment. And I have no less than five 22 cal handguns.

If you count all the 22 cal handguns I've owned, shot for a while and then sold it would be about two dozen. I've pretty much enjoyed them all for one reason or another. Didn't keep them all because I'm a shoot-em-for-awhile-then-sell-and-buy-more-fun-stuff gun owner.

I've owned several.....Taurus PT22 (no good), Walther P22, a cheap revolver, Ruger Single six, Browning Buckmark Micro, Bersa, M&P Compact, Taurus TX22, Ruger LCP 2, and Sig P322.
I've always wanted a Ruger Mark IV Hunter or similar, but I lean toward 22's that are more "tactical", small and lightweight so I can carry them.
My favorite thus far.....The Sig P322, followed by the Taurus TX22. (for just a Range gun the Browning was great).
I was amazed how accurate I was with my new Sig. I plan to run the Sig against the Taurus and see which one I shoot better.

I know this is old, but it's resurfaced, and apparently I haven't responded so I might as well.

I have no idea how many 22 handguns I've owned over the years, but it's been a bunch. Never seen one I didn't like.

Rugers, both revolvers and semi's. Smith and Wesson 17's and 18's. Dan Wesson's, Colt's, Hi-Standard, Harrington and Richardson, Heritage Rough Riders, Unique (that was the brand name) and some more I don't remember I'm sure. Heck, I've even got a little Italian import called a "Galesi" that apparently is a 22 short only. LR's don't fit, and shorts work, so it's a 22 short.

Right now the only other 22 I have is a High Standard Sentinel 9 shot, DA/SA revolver, 4" barrel, alloy frame. This one is unusual at least to me as it's the only one I've ever seen with adjustable sights, and wood grips.

I'm thinking I might need another though. I'm going back and forth between a Phoenix, and one of the new Colt King Cobra's I think it's called.

Kinda like asking "who's your favorite child" -- I like em all and the older I get, the more use they get. Single actions, double actions, semi autos and conversion units. Little blast, little recoil and don't have to reload.

The favorite .22 l.r. - and I understand that the OP used singular for a reason - is once again my old Korth, the first one I bought with match grips on it and went to the Ratzeburg Korth factory to buy one of the original grips that were made by Nill.

Once in a while the Hammerli International 211 or my 212, a 30 series Korth, or the FN International 150 take over favorite rimfire pistol nomination but I always revert to the old Korth.

The FN 150, that is often in my range bag, is a very well made work horse. Those guns easily go past 100,000 rounds without any problems and are as solid as the old Ruger MkII but are better made and finished and also have a much nicer trigger. Thebest thing is that these guns are not ammo sensitive.
