What about a Vepr in 5.45x39? I know the 7N6 ammo is not being imported, but I can still get my hands on about as many cases of the stuff as I wanted.

I think that would be an excellent choice and under $700.

That's great. I was about to buy one just like shortly after they came out, but the accuracy reports kept me away. MAC on YouTube did a pretty good video on the accuracy of his and I was unimpressed. Too much money for me to spend on a 2.5-5 MOA gun. But they sure look sweet.

Olympus I am not contesting your preferences here, you like what you like, I am just trying to put it in a bit of perspective. Bullpups like the Tavor are designed for close quarters combat scenarios and for it it to achieve 2-2.5 moa is impressive. You set them up with a red dot like Ranger did and it doesn't get much better than that. What you don't want to do is shoot one or you might find youself trying to come up with a couple of grand to get one, they are fun on a whole new level. As for me, I was able to resist the temptation of forking out that kind of cash for one rifle but I don't want to shoot one again because I don't know if I will be able to resist a second time....

Im not using the 95 for distance that's for sure it's going to be a home, car tight quarters type weapon being that's what it's designed for ,my zero will be 50 yards or 2" low at 25 yards. I have seen some 2" MOAs and I've seen 4.5 MOAs at 100 yards,a Tavor is not for everyone but it does add something to the tool chest.

I was about to jump on a X95 for my first bullpup, but now I see the F90 Atrax is coming beginning of next year. Downside is it takes AUG mags and I have a stockpile of AR mags, but I think I might do it. It supposedly has a much better trigger as well.

I have a couple bases covered with my ARs, one is a Recce style and the other is a 10.5" SBR. Aside from cool factor, I couldn't justify the X95.

Anyone mentioned the VZ58 yet?
x39 is the obvious option, but I believe that there is a .223 version too. Not on my side of the Pond, but rather in the States.

Texas45, you might want to flip that red dot around the right way, before people at the range see. just looking out for you

I put my pre-Hillary gun on layaway last week. If there are major changes in gun legislation, the first ones are going to be to the imports.
Bring on the PAP M92!!! I can't wait to pick her up and take her to the range!!! |

While I've had my pristine 1943, NPM, high wood, carbine for over 40 yrs, it's in such great shape that I hate to risk damaging it by shooting it so, it's been retired to the wall to hand down to my son. I looked for a GI shooter grade but came up short as the only examples I could find at under $1K a few years ago were all pretty tired examples. I tried a few friend's tired GI models and they grouped like shotguns and ran inconsistently. Not at all what I would accept for a plinker so I tried a friend's new Auto Ordnance M1 Carbine and was surprised at how smoothly it functioned and especially how much more accurate it was than my 1+ barreled NPM with my 110grn handloads. I picked one up for myself and have been very happy with it as a shooter with well over 3K rds through it. I swapped out the flip rear sight for a Type II adjustable one and bought some Korean 15 and 30rd mags from AIM. The AO comes with a A2 mag release designed to work with the 30rd mags so they function perfectly. Great little shooter, tons of fun to own, and best of all I don't have to worry about damaging a piece of history. |

I agree with the post above about imports being the first thing shut down. That's why I've been adding some Soviet bloc AK's while I can get them. They're all 7.62x39. Been tempted to get a AK74 in 5.45 but I'm trying not to add yet another caliber. Easier to stock up ammo when you don't have every caliber under the sun. If I do bite the bullet (no pun intended) and add another caliber it will likely be the 5.45 or a 300 Blackout upper. The other possibility is a semi in 308 since I already stock up 308 for my Savage 10FCP. Those PTR's do look interesting. Let us know what you get......

Leaving the shotgun out of it the 4 caliber's I'm going with are 22lr,9mm,223,308, these are my main ones.

My vote goes to the m1 garand. Hands down my favorite gun I've owned. But since it's only limited to 8 rounds I'm not sure it's at as much of a risk of the big bad gun ban.
