Can't help with the sites but your division will be ESP with the Glock. To each there own and what works for you. I have blacked out my front site. So far its working for me and my old eyes.

Glock Sights

I am partial to Novak's fiber optic "tactical" front sight and their standard black rear sight. I also have the "over 50 eyes" and have tried many other types. This one works for me. YMMV

why would using a G17 put him into ESP?

I prefer 2 different sights. Both are very bright and have bigger fiber optic dots. The 2 options are the hi-viz and the tru-glo TFO's.

if you are not going to carry or use the gun for home defense, i think it would be smarter to get the hi-viz considering their a bit cheaper
