BEST PISTOL? Is this for CCW, would be the one you could handle, meaning concealment, quick draw and shooting etc. I still pick my Mil Spec but sometimes a carry a S&M 442 when in a suit.

my favorite all around is my Glock 23.
Small enough to conceal, .40 is powerful enough for home/vehicle/personal protection, always goes bang (2000+ rounds and not a single failure yet), and can take more abuse than you can dish out. A lot of people dislike Glocks but I wouldn't give mine up for anything. Just MHO however |

So the "small hands" excuse is bunk; so is the "bad angle" excuse bunk, as well. TOTALLY bunk. It's only the nitpicking person that complains about "being uncomfortable" with Glock grip. Oh please, if it were that bad, hundreds of thousands of police officers around the nation and world would give up on 'em in a heartbeat... but they haven't yet, and they (Glocks) have been in service in multiple police agencies for 20+ years so far, and still going strong. Gee... I wonder why? ![]() ![]() ![]() Again, as I've repeated on many posts in many different forums: The "hump" on the back of the Glock grip is there because of the hole at the bottom-rear; the hole is there so one can slip their finger inside to more effectively grasp the magazine and pull it out, in case it ever gets jammed up there for some reason. There is a tactically sound combat REASON why Glocks have this hump, people... REMEMBER that! ![]() And, you can always "reduce" this hump by simply heating it up and pushing it in to how far you're comortable with. I'd still suggest you leave enough room so you can get enough finger in the hole to grab the magazine well enough! ![]() So, yes, the "hump" on top of the double-stacked rounds make Glock grips bigger than the usual pistol grip, but not impossible to grasp onto and shoot effectively, IF people would stop nitpicking, and give them a chance (or two). They'll love that big grip once their mag jams in combat and they can grab the magazine quickly to pull it out! Also, I've read that a bigger grip helps spread out the recoil on Glocks, especially full power "Magnum" Glocks, such as the Glock 20 and 29 in 10mm. ![]() |

For CCW, I pick the 10mm Glock 29:
![]() That's basically TRUE .357 Magnum power (and greater) in an 11-round capacity, compact / sub compact sized pistol; which is reliable, durable and simple to operate and clean. With full-power rounds, the Glock 29 is more controllable than a .357 Magnum revolver snubby, too! Want more ammunition capicity? Simply throw in a 15-round Glock 20 magazine, and you're good to go; just throw on an aftermarket magazine sleeve to cover the mag, and it's now basically an extended grip Glock 29; only difference is, it'll have a slightly smaller barrel than the Glock 20. Without grip extensions, I've read some people literally ankle-carry their G29's! Heavy? Yeah, but at least it's possible for when it's truly needed / wanted, right? ![]() Throw some DoubleTap 10mm rounds in there, and it might not get any better than that! ![]() |

Yeah Northalius, that's why CCFRaceframes is making the aluminum glock frame with different dimentions and a 1911 backstrap as an option. In fact here is their answer to an apparently often asked question:

Uh... no genius. They came out with the SF models because they wanted to grab the other share of the market, the complainers and sissy-boys who were going to other pistols because Glocks' grips were supposedly too big. It's a business choice they made, just to keep the customers happy. People can still shoot full sized Glock 20's; again, I've seen small women do it, so it's possible. But you always get the whiners complaining about "Being totally comfortable" when shooting. Please, this is a combat pistol, not a freakin' luxury sedan automobile that you have to drive in for hours at a time. It's a gun to save your life, and the hole is there in case the magazine gets jammed inside, you can easily grasp it now. The hole does make the grip slighly wider from front to back, but for a good reason, I'd say... a good TACTICAL reason.
Seems hundreds of thousands of police officers have no problems with regular Glocks, huh? Why didn't they all drop them because the grips were supposedly like 4x4's in their hands? I know why, because those that say such ignorant statements are whiny nitpickers that think guns are for comfortable fun at the range, not used for survival on the streets or in war. |

Oh Northalius, calling people names is a sure sign you have no argument left. Its cool though, I don't take it personally, but this whiny nitpicker cares about quality in a pistol, not plastic crap with the ergonomics apparently thought up by bigfoot. It makes a difference, when you grow up a bit you will find out.

Second, why are you offended, personally, by the ergonomics of my hand? I don't mean to nitpick, but it's my hand, and I'll be the judge of which gun feels comfortable in it, and which does not. How about I fill my hand with what works for me, and you fill yours with what works for you, and nobody insults anybody over their choice? Deal? Quote:

Bunk? Put down the Kool Aid for a minute or two. Grip angle is one of the most important factors in how a handgun (or any other firearm) fits any given shooter. Not only does it heavily influence "feel" it also strongly affects natural pointing ability. The way a pistol points in the shooter's grasp is extremely important if you ever plan to hit a target quickly. Obviously with careful aim, it doesn't have as much impact but when fractions of a second count, as they count in a self defense situation, it can have a huge effect on the outcome. If a gun doesn't fit, it doesn't fit. Calling somebody a sissy or whiner not only says volumes about your own character, it does not address the issue, an issue you are clearly ignorant of. So if all that sounds like Greek to you, you need to educate yourself on this subject before putting your foot back in your mouth. On the grip side, I bought a G21 back around 1991 at 17yrs old. I have large hands and was able to make do with the large grip that still felt like a brick. As I grew up (there's hope for you yet) and my tastes refined the big square grip became more and more uncomfortable until I finally sold it at a profit. You can call me a sissy if you want to but I spend a pile of money for properly fitting grips on my sixguns and have very little tolerance for such a significant lack of comfort in a handgun's grip. You ignorance on this subject is to be expected. That said, I have very little negative to say about Glocks. They are wonderful tools for the task for which they were designed. Unlike others, I don't consider them to be a viable sporting arm. As to fit, the grip angle is "okay" for me but I find a more vertical grip to be far more comfortable. Which is why I greatly prefer the 1911 for most of my autopistol duties and also why a Springfield XD .45 is my truck gun. The big XD's grip is also much more comfortable in shape, still maintaining a double stack magazine. Like so many other things, it seems to be their biggest fans that sour a lot of people on them. You Glock true-believers do nothing but alienate people. |
