Kel Tec P17. Ultra lightweight, accurate, cheap, and a helluva lot of fun to shoot.

I bought one for my wife, as she didn't like the recoil of my 9mm HKs. I tried it out for a couple mags. Now I've got two of them.

I own the following :

Ruger MKI Target
Ruger MKII Standard
S&W Model 41 Target
S&W model 317 - 3" bbl with adjustable sights
But my favorite is a Ruger Wrangler SA , 6 shot , 4 5/8 " bbl , fixed sights
paid $199 for it and it's more fun than a barrel of monkey's ...
I don't know why but it is just relaxing and fun to shoot ... I Love It !

I had to do a major wipe down after I had some company that was admiring my horde of handguns. Will I was at it counted heads and came up with 28 quality handguns in 22RF. Also 3 black 22s and a Jennings. I had 29 the other day but gave my boy a S&W 41. It was the only new model I had. I had to stick in a Victor to balance picture.

Dmr50, I don't think there is anyone here that wouldn't be proud to have such a nice collection of quality 22 LRs. I've been contemplating the eventual purchase of a used 41 if I can find a good one under $1000 I had a 622 for a couple of years and it was rather lackluster when it came to printing groups on paper so it went down the road.

Ruger MKI Target. Bought used in 78, always shot better than I could. My friend would break clays @ 25 yds. with his .44 mag, and I used to destroy the pieces he left.

They are all favorites, depends on what day it is. I greatly enjoy the old High Standard Supermatic, mine is an oldie with lever barrel release. As long as I do my part... I keep a healthy supply of standard velocity .22 LR on hand for the Supermatic..

I played with a Keltec P17 the other day. Put 160rnds through it (10 magazines). It is now my new favorite.

Beretta 71. Great for plinking, small game, and also anti-terrorist work. Plus, it's easy to have with you outdoors, when the big ones would normally be back in the house or car.

The Beretta 71 is my top favorite, but really close behind is my S&W 317. After those, I also love my KT P17, Buckmark, HD Military, and Beretta 101.

So many choices!!! I think you should talk about your budget and expectations. Skys the limit for target shooting, a Smith and Wesson 41 might be your next gun. Want something to carry, a TX 22 might be the one. You can't go wrong with a CZ Kadet or older Ruger Mark II. Either is a better gun than a Buckmark in my opinion. My BM Camper has been accurate, but reliability just hasn't been 100%. The BM is the gun you want if you like spending a lot of money on upgrades from tactical solutions. It's got plastic parts in the bolt to hold the firing pin, a wire ejector, a magazine disconnect and a tight chamber that shaved lead until I chamfered the opening. Now it feeds round nose ammo fine but doesn't like truncated ammo. It's very ammo picky.

Always seems to be the last one I bought - My 1965 H&R is a family hand down and ugly, Beretta 71 is always a fun one to shoot and feels perfect in the hand. The Beretta 21a Bobcat is just plain a gotta have and fun to plink. I found a Ruger SP101 5" and that is my most fun to shoot 22LR now. I'm sure they will be another as times ticks.

Volquartsen Scorpion.

Have yet to lose in competition since I purchased the Scorpion two years ago.

Never had a FTF or FTE. The Scorpion appears to be set up for CCI standard velocity 40gr lead bullets.

I typically shoot from 7 yards to 25 yards scoring around 596/600 in PPC.

Indoor rimfire it is a killer as the distance and targets are larger.

My Mk. IV is still in pieces getting rid of the mag safety, gotta put it back together. I also like my little Taurus 9 shooter, I think they are still on the discontinued list, it is one they should bring back I see only fancy stainless long barreled versions now usually in .22 mag. Downside is the 2 men and a boy DA trigger, can't have everything, not in a small frame rimfire revolver anyway. That's something to keep in mind when shopping rimfire revolvers, the small J frame size revolvers can't really have their triggers "fixed" it becomes a geometry problem with the small frame and the healthy whack rimfire requires. Point being don't buy a small frame .22 revolver thinking you will lighten and tune the trigger to your liking, unreliable ignition is the general result.

.22's, to me, have always been more of a utilitarian firearm than anything (I've always been more interested in larger calibers and thus have enjoyed shooting them more). That being said, my favorite .22 handgun is probably my H&R Sportsman simply because I find top-break revolvers to be interesting though I must admit that I've picked up a couple of Heritage Rough Riders in the past couple of years and they're an awful lot of fun (though I really like them with the magnum cylinder).

Well, begrudgingly I must admit for me it is between the Kel-Tec P17 and the Taurus TX-22 competition. I think the Taurus is a better handgun. I love the P-17 though, the Taurus has more features and is a tack driver but just costs more. Either choice is a good one.
