Old Bausch and Lomb scope

I bought an older Remington 700 (1962 build year) in .30-06 that has a Bausch and Lomb fixed-reticle externally adjusted scope. From what I can tell, it's a B&L BALsix.

Scope and gun:

I'm having an absolute BITCH of a time zeroing the beast and frankly, would rather remove the scope from the rifle and install a more modern piece of equipment.

My question is whether or not a) I should keep it and if so, what's the best way to go about zeroing a scope like this; or b) were I to replace the scope, is this something that I could sell?

The glass is clear and the finish is fine, but I can't zero the base worth an absolute crap. Any suggestions? Should I just get rid of it and be done with it?

Those B&L scopes were decent - for their time. However, modern optics are much better (as long as you are buying a quality scope to begin with). Personally, I would upgrade to a new modern scope and definately upgrade to better base/rings.

Doyle is right-on with his suggestion. I did some upgrades to my 1953 rem model 721 .30-06 springfield. Did 100% of the work myself:

1. Stripped the iron sights.
2. Cut barrel length to 22" & re-crowned.
3. Epoxy & pillar bedded the action.
4. Epoxy bedded the barrel channel & free-floated the barrel .007"
5. Installed leupold dual-dovetail bases & low rings.
6. Lapped the rings
7. Installed a leupold 3x9-40mm. Scope
8. Refinished the stock with 10 coats of tru-oil.
9. Replaced the slotted head action screws with allen-head socket screws.

Good luck on the rebuild & i hope my suggestions have given you some direction for your rem rebuild project.
