AARGGHH I did it again!
I was all excited to finally get to sit down and load a few rounds for my new 45-70. I pulled my brand new dies off the shelf only to realize I forgot to pick up a shell holder
I would happily pay the extra few bucks if they would just include the shell holder in the die set. I have done this 3 times now.

I feel the same. Charge an extra dollar and include the shell holder. It would make sense to me.

Not a plug for Lee Dies but I believe their dies all come with the correct shell holder. Or just buy a set of Lee shell holders. The set will (at a guess) cover 90% of what most people load. I think RCBS makes a similar set.

Idk. I ordered the lee set with collet die and seater and didnt get a shell holder.
I already had a hornady seater so the lee seater went away. You cannot beat theirr sliding sleeve seater for the money imo. I have also gone to forster bump neck bushing dies. Great stuff. |

I bought the Lee pack of 11 different shell holder back in the early 90s... I think I paid under $15 for it. Over the years, I've filled out my die collection with mostly Lee dies, but it's always handy to ensure that I've got a shell holder when I need one so the set comes in handy.

Most die sets don't come with a shell holder because so many different calibers use the same holder. If you load .45, .30-06, 7mm, 8mm, .243, and .308 as I do, you will end up with six shell holders.

It would not bother me a bit to have multiples of shell holders because I could keep a shell holder in each box of dies. Plus I would avoid events like what happened to night where I had to go to several different stores and finally found the last one in our town.

Grubbylabs:
What if you had, like me, many calibers with a 30/06 base. If the die set contained the shell holder you would have multiple shell holder of the same size. Semper Fil. Gunnery sergeant Clifford L. Hughes USMC Retired |

I find it the most convenient to have a shell holder in each box of dies. That way I don't have to worry, the right shell holder is in the box and I can just put it in the press and load. I like the Hornady dies for many reasons but one is that they have a shell holder in the box. As it turns out it is a great place to put a shell holder.
