The Beretta APX Centurion looks promising. Both companies are staying competitive. If I wasn't so in love with my Walther P99c AS, I'd pick one up.

Wow, S&W is squeezing a gun in between the Compact 2.0 and the Shield. Or updating the original Compact, whichever way you want to look at it.
Endless search for a niche in a crowded market.

Hmm, the Beretta APX compact has my interest if I can get a full grip on it, the trigger reach is not too short, and it is not too chunky width wise though the spec is 1.3 which is a bit on the wide side. Looks like that might be a possibility with the undercut just before the trigger guard but won't know for sure until I actually handle it.

Beretta has already screwed the pooch with the APX.. They should already be selling exchange kits like SIG does with the SIG P320.

They sell frames but not exchange kits. While I don't doubt a number of people do want exchange kits, I do doubt how much of a market there is for it. It would make some sales but I'm not sure it would be that significant. Dealers I talk to usually say people like the idea of exchange kits but not many actually purchase them rather than buying another pistol (of course in states where.purchases are strictly.xonteolled it can have some appeal).

I had an APX and really enjoyed it. The ergonomics are great, especially for anyone with small hands.

In reference to the width of the APX vs M&P, same advertised width.

Beretta isn't missing out on exchange kits.

Sig's kits are ~$400. Depending on your desired configuration, a new pistol might be within $100 or even slightly cheaper than buying a kit.

They cost almost as much as a new gun because they are almost a new gun.

True and both are wider than my Glock 19.

I know the width of a Glock slide is smaller than the frame.

When compared side by side with calipers the difference is small from what I remember.
