Law Tactical ARIC, is it SBR if <26" folded? - A rifle that turns into a pistol
I just installed a Law Tactical stock folder on my 16" barreled AR rifle (which by the way I LOVE).
With the stock folded, the length of the rifle is just 25" but my understanding is this doesn't turn it into an SBR because the feds measure rifle OAL with the stock unfolded and in its firing position. A rifle with the Law Tactical folder installed cannot be fired with the rifle in the folded position. HOWEVER.... Law Tactical just came up with what they call ARIC (AR Internal Carrier) which allows the rifle to be fired with the stock folded! ![]() https://www.lawtactical.com/ar_inter...IC_p/99367.htm https://www.youtube.com/shorts/AV6sbgNsJ_w Question: Suppose a rifle with a 16" barrel has OAL of 36" with the stock unfolded but only 25" with the stock folded. If the rifle is able to shoot in the folded, 25" OAL configuration, is it an SBR? Or would it be a pistol, because when firing with the stock in the folded position it cannot be shouldered? ![]()

Quote:
For braced pistols and other firearms, OAL was originally measured the same way… brace unfolded. But they you get people tossing LAW adapters and vertical grips on AR pistols, saying it was an “other” because OAL was over 26”. Well, with the amount of questions people asked the ATF, they put out the letter that you measure them without the brace or it folded. Really screwed Black Aces with their folding 12 gauge others, which were fine. Suarez had a folding adapter for the TAC-14, which was 24” folded, but 33” unfolded. After that letter, guess what happened? Big reason why my TAC-14 now has a fixed brace adapter on it. If it is a rifle, you measure it with the stock unfolded. Just like M1 Carbines, AKs and all other rifles. Firing folded, I think that might only come down to a few state restrictions. You are good with that setup, if you aren’t breaking any state laws. |

you have a 16in barrel, by definition that is a rifle regardless of OAL last I checked. you cant have a Short barreled rifle, if you dont have a short barrel (under 16in). If that were the case most bullups would be sbrs based on thier oal but they are not.
