New Word
Here in the People's Republik of Kalifornia me and my friends say, "We've been Pelosi'd!" when some new restrictive legislation is proposed.
Now we can all use "Zumbo'd" to describe betrayal from within, like "Quisling" was used during WWII. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quisling |

First let me say this:
Jim does have a right to an opinion, however its unfair to post a opinion on a topic you know nothing about. Jim apparently, and by his own words admitted to, not knowing about the AR platform. While I find this incredibly hard to believe, we should not be bickering/fighting amongst ourselves. It doesn't matter if you're just a shooter, just a hunter, or both .... you need to write your Congressmen and Representatives both at the state and federal level NOW. We as gun lovers have suffered 10 long years at the hands of a law that was aimed at legal owners and law-abiding citizens .... not the nut jobs that deal crack on some inner-city corner. We need to act in a single voice and let our law makers understand. Lest we forget. Kris |

If you don't like, AK's, that's fine. If you don't like AR's, fine. If you don't like anything except wood stocked bolt action rifles, that's fine too. But to say that AK's and AR's are "terrorist guns", that is a completely different matter. This isn't a, "I got drunk at the bar and said a few stupid things" kind of situation. This is a, "I did not have relationships with that woman" situation. BTW, I saved the blog entry in case it goes down. That blog entrys HTML file is up to 3,192 KB. ![]()

News Flash: Remington has severed ties with Zumbo!!!
From thread on Glock Talk. I don't have permission to repost the message, so I'll just post the link for now.
This is spreading like wildfire over the internet. Edit: Wow, reading more of the posts, he is really taking a beating. I kinda feel sorry for him. One bad statement/article can really sink you quick.

One source at Remington says an announcement will be made today. Another says ties are severed.
Info looks good. This very sad situation has caused incalculable damage to gun owners in this country, Remington (who IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT ZUMBO SAID & DOES NOT AGREE WITH OR CONDONE IT), and Zumbo himself. Denis |

And, their website now says Remington is in the process of severing their sponsorships with Zumbo, formal announcement by noon today.

Interesting responses from the parties involved:
Zumbo: Blubbering, insincere apology Outdoor Life: Can't we all just be friends? Remington: You're fired. Three guesses who gets my respect. Tim |

Zumbo and OL both need to find comfy rockers in the sun room at a retirement center. It may take awhile for OL to meet this fate, but it will happen. Any word from his other sponsors/supporters?

Remington pretty much had to separate the company from Zumbo's commentary. There are too many people who see Remington's name all over his blog & assume the company condones the man. And that includes the Brady Bunch.
What happens with his other sponsors remains to be seen. Denis |

After reading his apology, it's not good enough by half. His going hunting with Ted doesn't change anything. His basic attitude toward these guns shows he doesn't really get it when it comes to the struggle over guns.

In your post, it surprises me that Tommy Millner, CEO of Remington, would make numerous grammatical errors in his letters! Are they for real? Where did you get them? ![]() |

TPAW: Word has it that those messages were sent via Blackberry w/o the usual fluff & buff by a secretary. Regardless, it's on Remington's website that they're severing all sponsorships w/Zumbo w/a formal announcement due out later today.

Zumbo's deals with Remington are over.
This should end the speculation. Go to http://www.remington.com and look in the upper right hand corner. Remington is severing ties. Everyone who sent a nasty-gram to Remington, should now send them an e-mail of thanks! |

So the old geezer stuck his foot in hismouth!
His comments mirror the attitudes of hundreds of hunters and "Gentlemen Shooters" on the Sporting Clays circuit. I heard many comments like his when I actively shot Sporting Clays and was squadded with elder successfull geezers who grew up as "sportsmen". Perhaps Mr Zumbo should peruse a Brownells Catalog, where AR parts/add ons/gizmos have displaced 1911 Parts/etc as the biggest sellers. Perhaps he should take count of the number of manufacturers who produce AR's and AR components. These old farts do not have a clue, they are living in a past era, we should make allowances for their dotage and cut them some slack. Go easy on him, you all will get old someday. (PS, I'm looking at 60 this year myself ![]() |

Remington has made an official announcement on the front page of thier website(top right corner) dropping zumbo like a hot rock. the thing is with the apology...its just a damage control attempt..he still thinks exactly what he wrote. HCI picked it up and he is Sarah Bradys nEW hero...they have vowed to help zumbo with his dream of ridding the hunting fields of these terrorist rifles:barf: there is no reason to cut him or those that think like that any slack....they hurt all gun owers, and are will ing to sacrefice semi automatic owners as long as it dont effect their Weatherby or 5000.00 O/U Browning. There are more than a few NRA members that thinks as he does....it help get us several ugly peices of legislation....he ment to influance others to think as he does by putting that on his soap box...he ment harm! He couldnt have wrote it/said any better if he had been sitting on Chuck Shumer's Knee like a vantriloquist dummy(with Chuck's hand up his butt making the mouth move) It will be gun "owners" like him that will stand by with a grin as our rights are eroded away..as long as they dont get his hunting guns. His trying to bring others to his way of thinking on this is a form of cancer figuratively. There is no forgiving him, nor those like him. Last edited by p99guy; February 19, 2007 at 11:52 PM. |

Mr. Zumbo has a right to his personal opinoin as to the usefullness of ARs/AKs for hunting. I do not hunt so I am not willing to speak on that. (See my sig line)
However his statement calling ARs/AKs "terrorist" rifles shows his stupidity, feelings, and makes him deserve whatever legally allowed action is taken against him. I believe that his actions fit this well known prose. When they came for the communist, I remained silent; I was not a communist. When they locked up the social democrats, I remained silent; I was not a social democrat. When they came for the trade unionists, I did not speak out; I was not a trade unionist. When they came for the Jews, I did not speak out; I was not a Jew. When they came for me, there was no one left to speak out. Change politcal subdivisons to firearm types and it seems to fit the situation exactly. NukemJim |

I'm thankful Remington has droped him like the rock he is. I emailed all of his sponsors and let them know my feelings. I think I'll go buy a remington now.

This is no different than the Ward Churchill incident
Yes..he has a right to his opinion and to voice it No ...his right to free speech does not protect him from the fallout At least he was being honest when he made the original statments His non-apology is nothing more than damage control Too little too late |

I wish that the legislators of gun control got everyone as hyped up as Zumbo did. I'll bet 200% more of us wrote e-mails condemning Zumbo than those that write their respective legislators to oppose proposed gun control bills.
If we could channel this much energy to opposing our legislators and their Brady cronies, imagine what we could accomplish. |

I'm buying a Remington, writing to all Zumbo sponsors informing of boycott, writing Outdoor Life. What an arrogant jerk and a lame, non-responsive "apology" - didn't respond to the fact that he accused hundreds of thousands of honest, taxpaying Americans, not to mention our boys in uniform, of being terrorists. Ridiculously outrageous!
![]() Now which Remington?! Maybe the XR100 in .223...... ![]() |
