WL 1985 and the M stamp indicates the recall was done.

Hello,

I am new on this forum.
I recently purchased a .22 S&W model 17. The serial number is BBD 3XXX.
Can anyone tell me the year of issue?

Help with date of manufacture/shipping date for an Model 34, 4" .22lr. It appears to be a modified I or J-frame.
Sn: M68xxx. Right side of frame is rolled in English and Spanish (Marcas Registradas"). The ampersand is strange looking as well between the Smith&Wesson. Thank you in advance for any information that can be provided.

DrPutor2 somewhere between 1973-1977. It's a J Frame.

Not a revolver but still a S&W serial number date code. Any idea of when the SAA alpha code would have been used? It's on a Police trade-in SW99 so between 1999 and 2004 and my best guess is earlier rather than later. Another features that might help is the magazine is limited to just 15 rounds even though witness holes go to 16 and the body is printed 15 rounds only and that it has a Century Arms import stamp.

Only by 5th post since joining in February 2, 2013. I was gifted this revolver from my granddad and looking for some basic information about it, like approximate manufacture date. Also is it polished Nickel or Chrome?

Here's some pictures:

https://postimg.cc/gallery/x9fygFm

Here's the details:

On right side of frame:
MADE IN U.S.A.
MARCAS REGISTRADAS
SMITH & WESSON
SPRINGFIELD, MASS.

On left side of barrel:
Smith & Wesson

On right side of barrel:
AIRWEIGHT
38 SPL. CTG.

On hinge of cylinder:
68570
E11
MOD-37

SN: 2410xx

UPDATE I contacted Smith & Wesson Customer service just now. They told me manufacturer date was between 1957-1962 and it's Polished Nickel. I wouldn't have known to call them except for reading another post on this forum, so thanks everyone! You answered my question indirectly.

1973-1974 J100000-J250000

Supica, Jim; Nahas, Richard. Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson (Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson) (p. 489). Gun Digest Media. Kindle Edition.

Here's what my "book" shows. The OP's photo shows a faintly stamped "J" at the beginning of the s/n. Without the "J", the s/n would be an older Model 37 or pre-model-number.

Tend to agree with L-2 based on the J prefix and that S&W discontinued the flat latch in 1966. Your's has the newer style latch. Very nice also!

I didn't even see that faint "J" until L-2 and MC_1911 mentioned it. Thanks!

It's polished nickel, S&W only made a few chromed guns as test pieces.

Post 8492,
Thanks for posting the photo of the butt and s/n. The inquiry posts often don't post an actual pic or as many good photos of various angles in this case.

Hey all,
My grandpa has an old .32 revolver that was handed down to him. I’m not super familiar with the old smiths. Model number inside cylinder swing out is 262. Serial on butt is 186260. I’d appreciate any help

Evanroy, I don't think there's enough info to help much. Hopefully someone will be able to come up with an answer!

Hello all,
I was just gifted an old S&W top-break revolver that I think may be a Second Model. The serial number is 23XXX.

The inscription on the top of the barrel says
"SMITH&WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS U.S.A. PAT'D JAN. 17 & 24.65
JULY 11.65. AUG.24.69. JAN. 19. 1875. REISSUE JULY 25.1871"

Someone in the past replated it. You can see the pitting underneath.
I can post photos if needed.

Thanks!

S&W doesn't issue its triple-alpha s/n's in order. My reference book (SCSW) didn't list "CEE" but here are some close s/n's in years 2000 and 2001:

2000 – BAG, BEL, BKB, BKP, BNY, CDJ, CDL, CDN, CDW, CDY, CDZ, CEA, CEB, CEC, CEF, CEJ, CEL, CEM, CEP, CLC

2001 – BAL, BRR, CEB, CEM, CER, CET, CEU, CEV, CFL, CJM
