It goes further than this, in my opinion. The handguns used in the Olympics are not at all toys.

This guy (Bloke on the Range) has a very interesting (IMO) discussion on what Olympic pistol competition is all about. He does touch on 25meter pistol (rapid fire) which is 22lr, but mostly discusses 10meter air pistol.

Very cool stuff. I wish they covered/broadcast the matches more in the US.
