Sig 220. I'm partial to the 4" barrel carry models. Hard to find a more elegant .45 semi. Eminently proven, tough as nails.

I'd skip anything from Springy, they're having so many issues lately...

My list would be:
1. Glock 41
2. S&W 45XX (pretty much any of the series will do...including the 645/745)
3. Star Megastar
4. American Luger in .45acp
5. S&W M&P .45
6. KRISS Vector SDP

and it ain't a pistol, but a Marlin Camp 45 is a MUST for any serious .45ap collector

While that maybe true of the XD series, please enlighten us on the issues with the 1911 line.

I like Sigs but only in 9mm. Their design has a high bore axis attenuating recoil and muzzle flip resulting in slower follow up shots. This is noticeable and negative in .357 Sig, .40 and .45.

I have a Sig X-5 L-1 in .40 and it recoils the same as my 10mm 1911.

1911s and Glocks have a lower bore axis.

My favorite .45 is my 1989 West German Sig P220. Never been a fan of the 1911 design myself, and lean more towards DA/SA designs.

Can't go wrong with this one, or the P227 if you want more capacity.

CZ-97B, and HK 45. If for just ranged, and HD the 97B is hard to beat.

Non-1911? So you must have several and be wanting something else.

I'd lean toward the Sig P227, the H&K 45 Tactical, the Sig P220 or the H&K USP 45 Tactical.
98 220 swift What about a SAR K2. I love mine and it has been more accurate than the M&P 45 I used to have. It also holds 15rnds of 45 acp.
I've never heard of SAR but that's a lot of 45 rounds! How's the reliability of this weapon? And is it made by EAA?

curt.45 move the sig 220 and the SR45 up your list aways.
What do you think about the ruger?

I have glocks in other calipers but time for some variety

Nathan Love the XDM 5.25, but for my money and use, I'll take the XD45 Tactical with thumb safety. I shoot it very well. It holds 13+1. It has good sights. Also it has 1911 ergos more or less with the TS.

BTW, you need more 1911's!
I wish they would make an xdm 5" tactical without the dumb cut slide on the 5.25. I know what it's for but it looks dumb to me.

I'm going to have to look at some of these pistols as I have never heard of them! Thanks for pointing them out

SIG P220, preferably an older German gun. And, no matter which one you get, unless you have to have it, skip the rail.

One that isn't on your list that is worthy of consideration is the S&W 645.

The SAR K2 is made by Sarsilmaz in Turkey imported by eea. It is sort of a cz 75 clone. So far reliability has been great after at least 500 rnds. Just a couple of hickups due to my reloads being to long.

What's so bad about the railed version? I only require a light/laser on my ccw and bedside which is my xds and soon to be glock 21

Thanks for the quick reply! I love the looks of the cz75 and that's great! Would I still have to deal with EAA's customer service? They're worthless from what I've read.

Only one mention of the Ruger P90? And it wasnt a recommendation...? The Ruger P90 is an excellent 45 pistol. I also have a Ruger P97, and its a great one also. These pistols are in the $300-$350 range. Its hard to find a better deal on a 45 than that.

I have no use for rails. Just a personal preference. I also like the lines of a classic non-railed SIG much better.

P220s are very nice shooters, so are Glock 21s, but the ultimate range .45 IMNSHO are the full size HKs. The USP .45 (tactical or plain) is a great gun, accurate and reliable in the extreme. The HK45 is slimmer and just as accurate, but the USP is softer shooting.
I had both, but am down to just the HK45C now, a great multi purpose gun, but for pure range fun the USP .45 is the way to go, plus the plain USP is less expensive than the others.

I would think so. I have not had a problem with mine. I actually got it on a trade and fell in love with it.

Link to website. I did some research on them and did not find a bad review. Some people on here have spoke well of them as well.

Love it hate it: P250 gen 2.

I bought mine 1½years ago and hated it. 8 inch single groups and foot and a half double taps were what the first 50 rounds did at 25y. I thought I bought a lemon.

I have shot and carried many da/sa revolvers/autos through my escapades in the African bush and 20 rounds has me shooting decently through any weapon.

The next time I took it out was with 250 rounds and the intention of learning how to shoot this light weapon with an insanely long trigger pull one shot at a time starting from a bench. After three bench shots at 50 yrds and one hole one the target I was impressed with the weapon and disappointed with myself. The day went by and i was down to 6 inch singles and foot plus double taps. Not much progress. I bought the weapon to be my secondary and was still carrying my tz99(p226 clone), m&p, ridiculously large colt acp, glock 21 or even my 44mag on occasion into action.

I was becoming disheartened, so I dedicated all range time to it. 800 rounds later and I'm down to 1" grouping often leaving one oblong hole with single shots and 1½ on doubles.

These are my best results from any 45acp I have shot. All that time on one gun and I figured I'd better get used to my da/sa shots again, to my surprise, my groupings on all pistols had become ½inch smaller :-). I am a spotter by trade and what happened next floored me. My 800y groupings were 5 inches instead of my usual 8 inches that has run true for the past 15 years, how did this happen with no rifle practice in a month? After talking to others who took the time to learn the insanely long pull I found similar results.

One such character is convinced that Sig made the gun as a teaching tool or shooter refinement trainer, as am I.

I now use the weapon as my secondary as I intended because all da/sa autos seem to have the safety in a spot that engages it every time I try release the slide and chamber the first of my new mag, a drawback that has cost lives in low ammo situations.

PROS:

reliability and durability (ak47 standards)

Simplicity, easily strips to four components( disassembly, clear and reassembly is possible in under 3s blindfolded)

Modular, all forms of the weapon are interchangeable... Grip units are under $40 making it a great wearing gun

Night sights, extremely handy for a dark bedside table

Frame rail, easily slips on a light for transition from carry to home defense

No safety/hidden hammer, weapon is always ready

Large magazine receiver makes loading just a thought.

The grip is comfortable, comfortable = accurate. (In general, if a manufacturer offers grip fits its because the never got the shape rite to begin with eg s&w m&p, still love mine but that is the only reason I am less accurate with it.

CONS

trigger pull, which turns out to be a pro if you have the patients

Magazines are pricey. 35-$50. 10rd only, I have not found extended after much searching requiring me to carry 8-10

Sights are really only smith adjustable although none of us who carry the weapon have ever needed to adjust them

Ejected brass hits you on top of your head or lands in your shirt pocket for the first 500 rounds or so then seems to sort itself out

The magazine release protrudes quite far and in tight confines will be depressed when the gun is pushed or bumped against the hip causing a self release(easily rectified with some filing a a drop of epoxy build next to it.

It does not like cheap ammunition(tul ammo stovepipes regularly)

I now carry a p250 and p320 purely because I have to carry so many mags. I discard the 320 as soon as its empty and then use all mags through the 250 as I find it more accurate and it is way more reliable than anything else I've come across in an auto. Since we started with the 250 we have become slightly more effective, but the most notable stat is under low ammo situations our casualty rate is down 40%.

I would highly recommend it, especially if you have a few 45s already and are looking for something a little different, then go get a 320 as the mags are the same.

I have had experience with the cz's, Barreta clone without reliability, the general rule of thumb is 1 out of 50 jams

CZ97 B, worked over by CGW. I hope to get the barrel bushing mod at some point.

I got lucky and found some Nill target grips on sale. Cut off the bottom to flush, they are wonderful.
