I will chime in, but I will give you another good reason not to post your number.
if some unscrupulus person(s) had any "hot" guns if they wanted to remove or alter their numbers, now they would know a "legal" set of numbers. as long as numbers are on gun, & it doesnt show signs of tamperingm any law enforcement officer wouldnt go any farther, but if anything happens the owner of legal gun could find themselves in hot water, especially if the "former hot" gun was stolen & reported, now you go to sell & your gun shows up stolen, & you have to prove its yours with paperwork, or risk losing gun & maybe get arrested & had never done anything wrong. 2 guns with same numbers, it would be relatively soo easy...... it isnt worth it guys. Meanwhile we're still waiting for just one instance where someone has gotten jammed up from posting a serial number online. Just one. One. Just. |

[1] It's my choice, and I don't need your approval, nor do I have to justify my choice. [2] The serial numbers of my guns are no one's business but mine (and my insurer's). [3] I have no reason to display the serial numbers of my guns to a bunch of strangers on the Internet. Doing so does not further my interests, nor do I derive any benefit from doing so. [4] If something bad can possibly happen, even if it's never before happened in human history, I'd rather it not happen for the first time to me -- especially when I have nothing to gain. |

Firearm S/N's and motor vehicle License Plate numbers CAN be traced back to the last known or current owner name and address.
Using Vehicle Licence Plate numbers to obtain owner info is easier than one thinks. With that said, Email [ISPs] are also traceable to a central origin of initiation (address) via GPS coordinates, and can be done on any computer or laptop with an internet connection. just saying.... Actually the practice goes back way before the internet. Back when I was a youngster, S/N's were routinely "X"ed out in gun magazines. Why? Who knows. I'm sure it had something to do with fear of the government getting the information.
I don't do it. (1) I don't know how (2) and I'm too lazy to learn. You might see some of mine. Others you won't.
