Varget burns quite clean for me in both .223 and .308.I use 25 gr behind a 69 gr SMK or Noslere comp.I just don't use the lighter bullets. It works quite well in the 45-46 gr range with a 168 gr 308'
I suggest the powder is not the problem. The use of a slow powder behind a light bullet with a mild charge will make for an incomplete burn. That will be dirty. It is the application. |

I am with Dave R. I have not really paid attention. Just really liked the results, and you need to clean sooner or later. I am near max and never noticed it diry than any others.

The cleanest I have used so far is AA2230. It has also been my most accurate powder from 55-62 grain bullets.

I just got my mini 14 shooting good, out of all the powders I've tried varget saved the day 69gr bthp 26.5gr varget 5shots 1/2" group @ 100yds I did not notice it being any dirtier than others, but if it were I wouldnt care because of the accuracy I got from it.
