Reaching to get your license/ID whilst casually telling the officer "I have a gun" is not wise.
Good point, actually. In the two traffic stops in SC (one roadblock, one speeding) I've been in while armed, it went down like this.

"License and registration, please."
"Yes sir. (handing over my license, registration, and CWL)
"Are you armed, sir?"
"Yes sir, on my left side waist."
"Don't put your hands near your weapon."
"Yes sir."

Evidently, I encountered two completely professional cops. In another stop in NC, where I was carrying openly on the dashboard (legal there), the officer confiscated my weapon for the duration of the stop. In this case, it was a young, tight shirted, swaggering Billy Bad-A$$ type in Pineville who was stopping me for "excessive use of horn" after a Mercedes cut me off on the I-485 on ramp. I beat the ticket, BTW. The Asst. DA almost broke up laughing when she heard the charge.

If it is me that has stopped you, then you probably just gotten out of a ticket if you tell me you carrying, though it is not required in AL. I applaud those who've decided to take care of themselves, and I really don't like writing tickets anyway, especially to good honest people. If for some reason I ever end up with a legally owned/ carried gun during a stop, I clear it, stick it in my cargo pocket, and return it upon completion of buisness.

To the guy that told the story in PA (?) that happened while en route to your girlfriends... Why let that happen again, get a lawyer now. Sounds like some bad apples that need out of the basket ASAP.

And I will agree with wildalaska too... Honesty, courtesy, and maturity will get you a long way with any decent officer.

Attitudes get tickets and jailtime.

My truck's tag says Gunluvr on it and to the cops and anyone else who gets behind me on the road the meaning is obvious. Also, I have 2% window tint because I don't want anyone to see me or my long guns that I have in my gun rack. Also, I occasionally have to go to the Atlanta airport and no one's ever given me any problems.

In Ct. it's not required to tell an officer, but when they run my Lic# it will show up that I have a permit. Been pulled over three times. Nothing asked, and nothing said.

Arizona checkin in here.....It is not required, however you don't earn any points.

I have yet to hear of anyone in Arizona who was pulled over "for a minor traffic infraction" presented CCW and got a ticket.

Some want it, clear it and say "don't load until I leave"

Others say "don't pull yours and I won't pull mine"

but again this is still the wild west out here...so hahahah hahah

I would as it will show up when they run your license here in Texas. Plus you are required to display your CHL if you are carrying.

It hasn’t happened to me yet but I’m not sure how it would go with the city cops. My opinion of them is anything but high. Sheriffs deputies or HP I suspect would be OK with it and maybe even cut you some slack. They are generally very good people. Night and day difference from the city boys.
