Barrel contour?
I want to order a new stock from Boyds for a Husqvarna sporter I'm building.....how do I tell what contour barrel is currently on it?

I think those Boyd's stocks are only partially inletted, in which case "sporter" would probably the contour and you would have to inlet the barrel channel to fit your barrel. If in doubt, measure the barrel diameter every two inches from the receiver to where the stock will end and provide that information.

Boyd's stocks come in several degrees of inletting, from none all the way up to a full inlet for a #1 contour which would be for an ultra light barrel. Anything heavier will require additional inletting.

boyds stocks
Sirs:
I've used many Boyds Stocks - all semi-inletted - they are the closest I've ever seen! You always have to cut the recoil shoulder though and I usually use the laminated. They are so hard you could chamber a gun in 105 MM and still not split it! I've built 9.3s. - 416s. and never had a problem. However, be ready to wait 6 months on a semi-inlet Mauser stock! As to bbl. contour just order one with the small channel and open it up. Harry B. |

thanks for the replies guys.....I'm not concerned with the wait for the stock... I'm trying to determine what contour barrel my husky already has....how do you tell if the rifle has a "#1" contour and so forth? Is there a chart somewhere with measurements?

Here's a chart for Shilen barrels, most should be close to the same.
