What kind of paint is used on the tips
I picked up some steel core projectiles and I want to paint the tip after I load them, but want to know what is used to paint the tips. If it even is "paint"
But what do they use at the factory? Thanks |

I don't know the answer, but I will offer a suggestion. If the tips do not touch the barrel, you might try model car enamel brush-on paint.
I have used it to touch up enamel clock dials, and it is pretty durable after it dries. It also coats nicely and comes in a huge variety of colors. Just a thought. |

Nail Polish
Pick-out an ugly color at Walmart (i.e., not one of your wife's). Most marked military is green tip, but not all is marked.
It is paint in an acetone base. |

My thought is that USA uses green for traciers the others guys use red. Over the years, that I've seen, steel tipped or amored pierceing ammo is black tipped.

I like your idea Marco. I don't know, but is it possibly the model car paint and fingernail polish are a similar product? The fingernail polish may have a fancier packaging and the mark-up like 600%.

Just barely got this post reply done when I realize that I posted backwards: USA is green for traciers and the other guys use green!

I use red, green, blue, orange and black Sharpies Permanent marker, fine point and industrial markers.
Available in a variety of colors.... http://www.sharpie.com/enUS/Products...rpie%20Catalog) Works good for leaving color traces on target paper for load testeing, ie; ladder testing. U can even color one side of the bullet and then the other for combinations. L8r, Michael ![]() |
