FEG Hi Power Clone

I have the chance to buy one from a friend for $300. It is in nice condition and shoots good. Would that be a fair price to pay? I can't remember the exact model but it looks like the attached picture and is a 9mm.

Re: FEG Hi Power Clone

Check to see if the safety matches the one in the picture. If it doesn't, then it's actually a clone of a S&W and spare parts are real tricky. I have one and its fun to shoot, but I've had to put some work into it.

Some are actually clones of the real FN high Power. They are great guns, and parts interchange. Some of the later ones are modified S&W actions as noted.

I've shot an FEG Hi-Power and it wasn't bad.

But for that same price you can get an Argentinian FM Hi-Power, where you're not going to have to worry about it being an S&W frame or whatever.

I know your buddy probably doesn't have an FM on-hand, but if you're in the market for a Hi-Power you can't really go wrong with one and all the FN parts will fit.

Decent price. Occasionally real surplus FN Hi-Powers will come on the market near that price; but I already own several Hi-Powers and I would be tempted. Just make sure it is an actual Hi-Power clone like the one in your picture.

I agree with the others, make sure it's truly a HP clone. Some FEGs are, some are hybrids and some are DA decockers. Standard parts and magazines only work in the clones

Make sure to disassemble it. I bought two FEG HP clones many years ago. One disassembles fine. The other had the slot for the slide latch cut wrong and held the slide too far back to remove the slide pin. So I had to Dremel out the slot a little more so that it would be in the right position to remove the pin. Other than that it functions fine and does take the older model HP parts. I removed the magazine safety and now the trigger is smooth and crisp, whereas before it was horribly gritty.

I have personally shot and disassembaled the gun in question with no problems. The trigger seemed smooth and crisp.

Does anyone have pictures of the S&W and the Browning clones so I can see the difference?

If the gun is single action, it's a Browning clone.

Like Bill said.........

.........if it's single action you're good to go. I have one. It shoots well enough for me to not even want a real one. The price offered is also good. These are going up in price lately.

Single action? Hi-Power clone. Double action? S&W 59 clone. I had the vent rib Hi-Power clone many years ago and it was great shooter. In fact, Cylinder & Slide used to make their custom Hi-Powers with the same pistol I owned where they milled off the vent rib. I sure wouldn't mind being able to get the Hi-Power clone for $300, vent rib or not.

Not exactly correct. The later FEG single action pistols had a S&W type lockup without the traditional BHP crossbolt which unlocked the barrel from the slide. So even though they look just like BHP, there are not.

I had one years ago. It was beautiful outside. And inside has some of the roughest machining I've ever seen on a gun. It worked pretty well though.
