The P89 is the only pistol I've had that has never failed. That includes my pair of kimbers and my 2k STI Edge.

Yep, I've got both a P89 and a P90...bought them both about the same time, in 1991 or '92. I don't think they're ugly at all, certainly not Glock ugly.

I owned a lot of different handguns before getting my P89 two months ago. Some are gone (sold, traded etc.), some I still have. The only gun that I could shoot really well was my S&W 686 4", untill I got my Ruger. I bought the P89 because I wanted an affordable reliable gun with hicaps to leave in my truck. Now, when I go to the range, I put the target out to 10 yards and slow fire with my Smith and my Ruger. More than not, my groups are better with the Ruger. I don't know what people mean when they say Ruger Ps aren't accurate. Perhaps the users aren't accurate with the rough ruger triggers. All it took was a little practice with the trigger and it became a non-issue for me. Mine's new, so maybe the accuracy issue is with older ones.
I've stumbled onto the best value of any gun I've owned. The longer I own my P89, the more of a fan I become. Now to see about getting that P90 . . . ![]() |

I bought a Ruger P-94 9mm long ago, before I knew anything about how a pistol should fit one's hand. Although I qualified for my CWL with it, it never felt right. Location/accessibility of safety is poor IMO.
The biggest problem by far was that regardless of how clean or dirty it was, or what type of ammunition used, it jammed far too frequently to be reliable. I replaced it with a 9mm fullsize steel EAA Witness in Wonderfinish. Perfect fit, accurate, and flawless with about 1500 rounds of all types of ammo through it, and in varying states from immaculate to filthy. I love the Witness more each time I shoot it! My next gun will be the steel Witness in .45 ACP. |
