My GP and orthopedist are both hunters. I'm working on my brother-in-law (GP), been taking him shooting when he visits, seems to enjoy it. but has yet to 'see the need . . . " for PD/HD.

Guns&Docs

Nice to meet y'all! Well said about the AMA..........I dumped my membership in the '80s. Another bad group is the Amer. College of Physicians, who have endorsed various 'studies' supporting gun control.

Whenever such a group declares a platform on a political issue they lose my respect. I conclude that their scientific thinking cannot be trusted because they will let their political beliefs override the data. Why should I beleive what they have to say about coronary artery disease when they lie about firearms?

Don't know about the rest of you, but between Navy service and civilian practice I've seen my share of nasty things, and by now have a reasonably strong stomach. Since I beleive in gun ownership I obviously think there is such a thing as justified violence. Yet I still find I can be sickened by violence when it's gratuitous and unnecessary.........I can hardly watch a movie anymore, it makes me feel so bad. Yet I think I could shoot when I have to, and I support the death penalty.

So I think there is no contradiction at all in a 'healer' being armed. In fact, I think those who beleive in armed self-defense are LESS violent than the gun-controllers, because we don't trivialize violence. And for medical folks that goes double, because we see what violence looks like.

Stay well and stay armed, my friends.

I was a Hospital Corpsman back in the early 90's, if that counts.
