Yeah, this list has been making the rounds of the gun forums. In the days when Gaston owned 99% of the company it would've been a surprise to see him allow any of his models to be discontinued.

Now that ownership and business management has changed, and competition has increased, it's not a particular surprise. It would make business sense to discontinue models which don't see enough market demand to make production time profitable. It's not like this hasn't been happening with other big name gun makers, after all. It's apparently just taken Glock a while to realize it?

Also, according to interviews with Gaston's widow, the company is planning to expand even more internationally, which would understandably mean that a lot of the models that have been made primarily for American sales might no longer be considered profitable enough to continue to command manufacturing time.

Time to thin the herd and head into the future looking to maintain profitability and remain competitive? What's selling and what's not selling?

I remember when I heard that S&W was discontinuing the subcompact CS40. I called and asked one of the people I knew at the factory. He said it was simple. While the CS9 and CS45 were strong sellers, especially for LE off-duty weapons, during the previous year's production of the Chiefs Special line the CS40 had generated less than 120 units ordered by vendors. Time to go.

Frankly, if not for restrictive states like CA, where only the Gen3 models are on the state's stupid Roster for new handgun sales - and only LE can buy the Gen4/5 models with their exemption for legislatively defined 'unsafe guns' - Glock might've dropped Gen3 production a long time ago. Yeah, I was told by someone at Glock many years ago that the Gen3 guns were still strong sellers on the international market, but that likely changed as the Gen4 (and then Gen5) models were promoted. As it is, even the Gen4 models became LE Only models a while back, as Glock wanted to promote their Gen5 models.

Personally, I think it's a shame the G27 is on the chopping block for all generations, but then how many 'average' gun owners like shooting the demanding little .40 subcompact, compared to the same size in 9mm? More's the pity. I'll simply continue to rebuild my older G27 as it may require going forward.

As it is, I'm still thinking of picking up a Shield 40 sometime, as when I wrung out a T&E Shield 40 at my former agency's range, I found I liked its handling even better than my G27. Sure, it asks a bit more of me than the Shield 9, but investing time in mastering similarly-sized .40 models tends to make shooting 9's even easier.

info

Yeah, this has been making the rounds of different sites with some dramatic headlines like "Glock is dropping the .40 S&W" or "Glock is discontinuing production of the 10mm Auto". Sensationalism and click bait. Glock is dropping some models, not the cartridge line as a whole.

Wait- G37 is still in production? Why?!? Never mind. I misread that as Glock discontinuing not discontinued.

Not all models are GSSF eligible.

That they are renaming their flag ship firearms that everyone knows as the 17 and 19 with difference the normal person doesn't care about is.

Made a really stupid mess for themselves. I bet most could correctly name the 19 replacement without looking it up.
