Garand op rod repair
Saw a question about op rod tip op rod being "crooked"!!!,,,I have sent mine to have new tip put on by Columbus Machine in Columbus Ohio,,they even can ream resize the gas cylinder and put an oversize tip on your op rod for like new operation,,,oh yeah op rods are supposed to have that bend "dogleg" in them,,,hope this helps someone!!

Yes. Replacement piston heads are sold by Brownells. Going to an oversized head and reaming the gas cylinder is the only option if the cylinder is worn.
While you are at it, see if they will gauge the bend in the rod and correct it if necessary. On the military blueprint, the 2.5" straight section of the spring tunnel tube immediately in front of the handle is supposed to be parallel to the roughly 4.64" straight section behind the piston head but offset by a minimum of 1.85" and a maximum of 1.90". In most well-used guns, you find the rod has less than the minimum, as shooting tends, curiously enough, shooting tends to iron out the bend over time (this is what is meant by bending the op-rod). Having the in-spec bend is required for the best accuracy, according to the information I have from a military armorer via a trusted source. The mechanism of the effect on accuracy isn't immediately apparent and is something I am studying.
