Remington 11 broken screw

I have a Remington 11 with a broken screw head on the lock screw for the carriage stop pin. The head is broken clean off and the screw is tiny, not sure of the screw size. Anyone have experience attempting to remove such a small broken screw?

Carriage stop pin? Cartridge stop pin? Carrier latch pin?

If it's the latter, these folks have a replacement.

Is the screw rusted in? If it's not stuck in there and you are reasonably handy, you might be able to gradually make a slot in the end of the screw by carefully using a carbide scribe. Once you have the slot in there, then remove it with a small flat-bit screwdriver.

If it's stuck, it's probably time to find a gunsmith.

Popperts has that screw also - $2.50.

To get the damaged screw out, you could purchase an "Easy Out" drill/extractor set like this: Easy out set.

Amazon has many other sets, but that one has a very small extractor which you are going to need for a screw that small.

If you have or have access to a drill press, it makes that job a lot easier since tiny drill bits tend to break if used in a hand held drill.

Also, lay the gun so the screw is up and put a drop of penetrating oil on it and let it sit for day. That will increase the odds of it coming out.

A good trick for removing a broken screw is to use a LEFT hand drill. While drilling the screw for an easy out the screw will often come out.
