1860’s BA Jirku Double Barrel Cap
Hello all, greetings from WA State. New to the forum. Trying to find out information on a double barrel cap lock I inherited many years ago. Gunmaker was BA Jirku in Reichenburg during 1860’s during Prussian war. He is listed in Source: Heer Der Neue Stockel, 1978. Vol.I, p.593. It is a very ornate piece with extravagant wood carvings, silver work and gold inlay. Rifled barrels that are Damascus. Been searching all over the place as well as images on the internet. Was featured on the American Rifleman in Jan of 1964. I believe this may have been an historical item commissioned for Helmuth von Multke at end of Prussion war. Initials hM on plate made by gunmaker. If anyone has any info on how I might get more info., please let me know. Thanks!

Thanks for the tip ligonierbill. I looked at doublegun.com searched all listing sellers and couldn’t find anything on the Jirku. Looks like all these people are sellers and buyers. There is a double barrel outfit in Europe. But when I tried to register, it wouldn’t accept my email. Now I am researching historical arms experts. Right now I am just trying to research and don’t want to pay for an appraisal yet. Thanks for your help! If anyone else has any reccomendations, please let me know.$

Does a search for Brenard A. Jirku, Bohemian, and Schuetzen come up with any positive results? Still checking here, but it may be a lead to start with.

10-96. Thank you for your tips.Gathering all kinds of information, leading me to believe the percussion lock may have been presented to Von Multke from Ottoman for a thanks to his contributions in the 3 wars as head general. That along with the intials hM, the location are all pointing me in that direction. Still trying to find more info. and documentation.
Thanks! |

I also uncovered some documentation that B A Jirku often had KJ Taschke do scrollwork and engraving on his rifles. Trying to access more info on Reichenburg hi manufacturers and guilds to see if I can get more, as well as ancestry and historical records, but it’s getting harder.
Any help is appreciated! |
