Do I Need An LCP Refresh?

I've been carrying an LCP for 10+ years, but I don't run a lot of rounds through it. I'm wondering if there are any springs or small parts I should replace just due to the moisture from pocket carrying it all of these years. I'll clean out the lint and lube it every so often, so, it doesn't get too dirty, but I do notice some spots of surface rust on the slide.

No.

It's surface rusting the slide bc Ruger used oxide rust as the treatment. The stainless LCP is the solution, but not a real problem.

New recoil spring if you want

Second thought. I had one that ate its guide rod with some good gouges. Ruger sent me a new one and spring free. Didnt do it again.

They are 150 new. Your ten yr old is an AZ build which is good. Not a huge investment, but nothing really much to do.

Buy a new mag if youre feeling a need to update. Buy Magguts for the new mag if feeling extra spicy.

I’d just clean and lube like you say and run a box or two of ammo through it and as long as you have no malfunctions I’d let it be. Don’t fix what ain’t broke. Some 4-0000 steel wool will take care of light surface rust.

After 10+ years of pocket carry, even with light use, it’s a good idea to proactively inspect and possibly replace some wear-prone or corrosion-sensitive parts on your LCP. Moisture, sweat, and pocket lint can take a toll over time. Key parts to check or consider replacing include the recoil spring assembly (they can lose tension with age), magazine springs (especially if you carry loaded), and the firing pin spring. Also check the extractor and its spring for rust or stiffness. Surface rust on the slide is common in pocket carry; you might want to clean it thoroughly and consider a light coating of rust-preventative oil or even a refinish if it’s extensive. If the internals look good and the gun still functions reliably, you’re likely fine, but preventative maintenance now can help avoid a failure when it matters.

Although our 2 LCP-MAX were fairly new, I put an MCARBO trigger and spring kit in it that greatly smoothed out the trigger. My wife's shooting with it improved greatly. They have recoil springs too.

M-Carbo spring kit if you are feeling sporty.
I did that on at least three pocket carry pistols (Kahr P380, LCP, RM380).
Not a dramatic improvement, but even an incremental improvement is welcomed.
And all springs are replaced--two birds, one stone.

Properly made and designed springs do not lose tension under compression.

The only real reason to change springs is if you discover corrosion on the springs or need to change the spring rate.

Forgot mcarbo did a kit for the gen2 and thought they only did one for the LCP II. Nice. Thanks!
