Torque only for a muzzle device

So I just got a YHM Phantom flash hider for my AK. I did not see any detents in the picture, but it only had 1 angle so I figured it was in a spot I could not see. I received the flash hider and no detents at all. Packaging said to go to the website for installation instructions. I found them, in their own section, no link on the product page. Apparently I am supposed to have a qualified gunsmith torque it, no crush washer, to 15-25 ft-lb.

I besides the issue of an ak specific device not having detents, torque only on a muzzle device seems like a bad idea? Am I incorrect in thinking this or is just torqueing it on ok?

Torquing is ok but I prefer the detent. There should be enough metal for you to just make a small notch for detent pin.

Depends on what the design calls for. Generally, what ever the maker's instructions are, done correctly will work and be reasonable durable.

Washer or not, I would not advise exceeding the given torque specs. Bad things can happen.

I have a few ARs that come with similar muzzle devices. They are symmetrical, so don't need be timed. No crush washer or anything of the kind. I suppose they are simply torqued on. No problem at all.

Torque is fine. You don't need a crush washer.
If you're worried about it, use some thread locker.

If you don't have a wrench that fits, stick a screwdriver through opposite ports (near threaded end, not danger end) and crank it down to "about there..."
