Smith and Wesson model 36-1 serial #
Does anyone know how I could look up the serial number and find out what year it was made? Just looking for info on my S&W model 36-1 38 special.

There's a "sticky" on the revolver forum about S&W serial numbers

Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson by Supica and Nahas. The 36-1 was produced from 1967 to 1988. You can post the ser# here and someone will probably look it up for you, or you can post it over on the S&W forum.

Post the serial number in the stickied "Smith & Wesson Serial Number Search" thread in the "Revolver" subforum.
Note: The number inside the yoke cut (cylinder) may be a meaningless assembly number. The official serial number is on the butt. You may need to remove the stocks (grips) to see it. |

Trigger643, I have 2 Model 36's both no dash and they were made in the 1971-1972 time frame, the -1 would've had to been made at least after that.
