The 585 Big Bore...
If you have read the rifle forum you've probably seen info about
our 585 HE, in the 12ga FH thread. And in handloading forum. It is 3.27" long belted case that shoots all kinds of bullets, from solids to jacketed to hard lead to .585 Minie bullets. Well we got experimenters cutting the 585 HE to about 2.17", about 45-70 length,to test, and to see how we can use them in bigger lever guns, that come with 45-70, 348, etc, cartridges.. The 45-70 rim is .608", base about .500", and our rim and belt is .654", but base is .634", 60% bigger cross section .A third bigger cross section than 50 Alaskan.with .553" base, that some put in same type of lever guns. Loaded overall cartridge would be 2.8" long. We think some actions can be modified enough bigger inside, to feed the case.. Make a real hairy lever gun. It being rimless case allows more diameter than a short fat rimmed cases, in a lever gun for more powder capacity, and power at moderate peak pressures. Called 585 Big Bore-- 585 BB --cases allready head stamped right.. Got thousands of cases to make these. Running moderate 32K psi loads can get over 5000 ft lbs. Ed PS.... could call it 585 Bad Boy.... |
