SEE when using cast bullets and reduced loads of slow powders?

Hi guys, I have read that there is a chance of experiencing a SEE when using a reduced load of a slow powder and a jacketed bullet!

Is this the case for cast bullets, logic says to me being much softer that a cast bullet is unlikely to get stuck and result in a pressure spike!

I am however still uneasy about loading up with a slow power in reduced loads!

I am trying to develop an accurate high velocity load in the 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser I have done some experimenting with H4895 and Varget with a 140 grain cast bullet. I have got them to go quite fast and maintained accuracy.

I think however a slower push is needed, H4350 and H4831 would fit that bill!

Loads for a 140 grain jacketed bullet are 39-44 of H4350, would a 33-38 grain loads for a cast bullet be chasing a see? Would it be better to load at say 30-33 with a filler?

everything else being equal a cast bullet will have less friction than a copper jacketed bullet meaning more velocity at less pressure.

An open base on a jacketed bullet may also provide a danger of just the jacket separating from the core of the bullet, in some cases and can be left behind in the barrel with low pressure loads.

I can't SEE!

What you mean by SEE?
That term is not defined in the site acronym list.

Slow powder loads for 6.5x55 are here:
