1911

So I was at the range about a month ago and rented a 1911 (1st one I've ever shot) and I just feel in love with the feel and power of the pistol. So I set out to find a budget 1911 because that's all I can afford. I looked at the Rock Island Armory pistols and had set out to get one. As I was looking at different gun shop's I seen Sig Sauer was doing a BOGO with a 1911-22. So I got a Tac-ops with the free .22lr. When I went to pick it up (Illinois 3 day wait) something got mixed up and the pistol set aside for me wasn't a tacops but some other model sig 1911 without rail or nightsights. To make it right the gun shop let me get the closest thing to the tacops. I ended up with a Sig Sauer 1911 scorpion. I think it an upgrade and couldn't be happier.

You made out like a bandit. You have a fine gun. Enjoy it.
My daughter was asking about that same deal. I told her if she wanted a 1911, I had an all steel TacPac. I told her the laser was a piece of junk but the 1911 was a keeper. I told her if she wanted it, I would give her the gun with the two factory mags and four Wilson Combat mags. I told her to go shoot it and bring it back if she did not like it. She and her husband came over today and brought the targets with them. Needless to say, they are keeping the gun. I asked for two of the Wison mags back and showed them how to clean the gun and avoid the idiot scratch. I have never had a malfunction with that gun. Now. . .I have a hole in my safe. . .what to do. . .

Geetarman what's the idiot scratch
The idiot scratch is what occurs when the takedown lever/slide stop is rotated into position rather than tapped into place after careful positioning when putting the gun back together again. I have done it and I have learned how to avoid it. The spring loaded plunger that secures it in place is usually pretty strong and people are sometimes tempted to rotate the stop into place and when you do that, the stop scratches the frame. I actually have a brand new Springfield Loaded M1911 9mm that came from the factory with one. The frame is SS so one does not notice it. . .but I do. I have copied a link that will show you one way to avoid it. I have not tried that method. What I do is make sure the slide stop has a dab of grease on the end of it and get the slide into position at the take down notch. I line of the slide stop right over the end of the plunger and take a plastic handled screw driver and give it a tap and it will just pop into place. Sometimes, depending on the gun, you can just press hard with your thumb or tap with the heel of your hand. Hope the video helps.

Nice video Geetarman on how to avoid the dread 'idiot scratch'.
Here's a still picture of one from Google Images-if I remember how to include an image.

And for anyone who does make the mistake and scratch their beloved 1911 well, if anyone ever comments on the scratch just give them a steeley-eyed glare and say gruffly and sarcastically 'well sometimes these things happen when you have to field strip it in a hurry in the dark and in the sand.'

Is this the full size or carry model? Great looking gun. Have my eye on a Sig 1911 as well.

Nice. Still debating this line of Sig or spending a few hundred more for a Springfield TRP. I know some guys hate Sigs overproduction of all the various colors, themes of the same model gun, but the Scorpion models and the like are kind of growing on me.

Get an MC Operator.

Cheaper than a TRP.

If you want the TRP, tho, get the bull barrel variant with the adjustable sights.
