Mini 14 gas block question!

Cleaning up my new / old (1987) Ruger and overall it looks like new! I did not feel the need to remove the pia gas block since the internals were very clean. Of course I sprayed it out well with spray cleaner. However I can wiggle the part that goes into the front stock housing. Is this normal? The rifle shoots well with no problems. Comments please, thanks!

Yes, the gas tube is designed to wiggle.

Good that's a relief! Should I mess with opening it up? I did use spray cleaner thru the port already. Is that enough?

Disassembly of the gas block is easy, 4 screws, 2 halves, the piston (wiggly thing you referenced, and yes, it is suppose to wiggle) and the gas bushing which is about the size as a .177 pellet. The bushing lines up 2 small holes, 1 in the barrel and 1 in the piston. When reassembling use feeler gauges to evenly space the 2 halves of the block and torque screws to 30 inch pounds. As a note, the 4 screws are staked at the factory, initially tighten just a scrunch to break loose. Also, since you won't be restaking the screws use some blue Locktite.

Best to be left alone unless the valve gets clogged or corroded.
