Can someone?

Can someone measure the expanding button on a RCBS FL 223 die? I've resized some cases and went to trim them with a lee case length gauge. To my surprise the gauge wouldn't pass through the mouth. I measured the diameter of the gauge (.222). I then measured the expander button (.221). This is the first time I've used this die and think the button may be too small from the factory.

Do not lower the die, just lower the decaping rod a little, you may not have it down enough. The way to check is to bring up a LUBED case into the full length resizing die, then loosen the nut on the rod. Let the rod stop at the bottom of the case and re-tighten the nut on the rod. lower your ram and measure again.

The other trick is to take the guide rod on the Lee trim gauge and using a rough scrubbing pad clean the rod, it might have crud buildup from other cases that have been trimmed.

Just a suggestion.

trobin,

The expander button on my RCBS full size .223 sizer die mic's at 0.2224". Hope this helps (and make sure you use a micrometer and not a caliper to get an accurate measurement).

best wishes- oldandslow

Mine is .2225".

I don't see how you're getting .215" neck I.D., even if your expander is only .221". It sounds like the die is sizing the neck down when the case goes in, but not expanding it at all on the way back out. How did you measure the I.D.?

Reverse side of the caliper. Spoke to rcbs and they said its possible the expander is undersized and shipping some more.
