CMP order status update
Back in Feb. I sent in my paperwork for a CMP Garand, the paperwork went out on Feb 20th and they received it on the 27th. I knew it would be a long wait since the web site stated it would be anywhere between 30-60 days to fill the order. On April 23rd I sent an e-mail to them inquiring about the status of the order, I received an e-mail back the next day from Vicki who told me that she was currently working on NY orders from Feb 4th. I figured at least another 3 weeks before I'd here anything so I waited as patiently as I could checking the CMP web site every day as well as my checking account. Well today was the day, checked the account this morning and there were 3 charges from the CMP. This what I'd been waiting for except that when I totaled the 3 charges up it came up about $170 more than I was expecting. A quick check of my account at the CMPs e-store site and I was able to see my order finally. There's 1 order for the rifle, 1 for the ammo and 1 for the bayonet and en-bloc clips. At first glance I notice that they billed me $795 for the rifle but that couldn't be right since the HRA Service Grade rifle is still listed at $625 on their web site. As I was calling Vicki I realized that the item number for the rifle was wrong, the item number listed in the order is for a WRA rifle not an HRA rifle. So when I got Vicki on the phone I asked her about it, she quickly pulled my order form and told me that I had written the item number for the WRA rifle but the description for the HRA rifle. I explained to her that I only ordered the HRA because I thought they were completely sold out of WRA and Springfield rifles and that I would gladly take the Winchester rifle over the HRA. She explained to me that the CMP is not sold out of WRA rifles but their supplies are very low and they are no longer accepting orders for them (why they accepted mine is beyond me) so when the guys saw the WRA item number that's what they pulled. So the moral of the story is that my stupid mistake in the order form actually was a good thing, maybe someone is looking out for me. Order is processed and awaiting shipping which could take up to 2 weeks so if all goes well I should have it by the second week of June, I can't wait! Anyone else with an order in be patient, they're working on them.

Nice. Hope it comes soon- the waiting gets pretty hard when you know it can be any time.

I've done a lot of business with the CMP, and I feel there pain as to the order back log.
What I did was stop doing internet buys. From now on (or tell when things return to normal), I'll just file out the order, pay with a money order and wait. Forgetting about it until it (what ever it is) shows up. Lot less stress that way. Not like I don't have enough guns/ammo to shoot now. |

That sounds like pretty good advice, this was my first purchase with the CMP and it was all done by mail. I've been lusting after a Garand for years but it seemed like every time I had the money for it I needed to spend it on something else for the house, car or a family vacation. This year I said I'm not putting it off again and decided to use part of my tax return for it. I was actually concerned that they'd run out of rifles all together before they got to my order. Now it turns out that not only am I getting the rifle I've been dreaming of for years but getting the Winchester version to boot, I think the waiting just got worse.

Out of curiosity, I ordered M2 Ball ammo about a month ago. Need to save a bit more for retirement, and in case my grown son is ever bitten by the gun bug. If he is bitten in three more years (+), imagine gun/ammo prices....
![]() Their e-mail stated that the ammo would take 2-3 months, which is easy to imagine. I'm appreciative of the lady finding the time to acknowledge by e-mail that she received everything required. Is this the very typical processing period in the last few weeks? ![]() stu925: A friend who is my Gun Guru retired years ago from the Navy Rifle Team (ARs), and also competed with the Garand. I've read a little bit about the H&Rs, and he recently told me that their quality might be the highest among all types of Garands. I hope to have an H&R action as my second Garand, and would have been happy if it were my first. Last edited by Ignition Override; May 29, 2013 at 03:25 AM. |

I never got a confirmation email, an update saying that my M2ball was changed from pending to processed or anything. I sent a email requesting an update and got their canned "we are very busy with your orders" email back and left it at that, about 2 months or so later the ammo showed up at my door out of the blue. I know they got slammed just like everyone else and they aren't that large of an organization but the CS is a little lacking... still I'd give them a B+ overall. better than some.

CMP operate at their own place. Always have, always will. That being said, where else are you going to pick up an M-1 at a reasonable price that you know has been thoroughly inspected for safety and function?

I wasn't talking about ordering an M1 or any other rifle. I'm talking about M2 ball and there are lots of places a person could get that. as for getting M1 garands, the number of rifles they have are incredibly limited at this point. there are no more winchesters, the only springfields they have are 308 converted, refurbed with new parts or otherwise modified to offer little to no historical value. all they have listed are H&Rs and those weren't that plentiful to begin with. M1Cs are no longer available, neither are 1903s, 1903A3s or 1917s.
there is no where else to get a reasonably priced M1 but I don't forsee CMP sales lasting too much longer in that regard either.

Seems to me the CMP is seriously understaffed but they seem to be dealing with it. I'm sure they're all a bit overwhelmed. Stu |
