1911, a thing of beauty

Am I the only one who finds the government model 1911 to be the best looking pistol out there? I mean, I've had a couple different 1911's and for some reason, I do not think that they look as good with the beavertail safety, skeleton hammer, or any of that other aftermarket stuff. I just love the plain jane 1911 and 1911A1. Does anyone else agree or am I crazy?

I agree, there's just something about "plane Jane" 1911s. Kahr and Springfield Mil-Spec.

re:

I'm in the "Classic" camp. I've seen some custom-built pistols that seemed like the builders were trying to make them look as much unlike a 1911 as they possibly could. Others have stuck with the classic lines and appearance of the pistol, and I applaud their efforts. It also seems like the recent trend is a return to the basics and getting away from bizzaroland.

If I do my part, they do theirs consistently - not fancy but, reliable

If all I was gonna do was look at them, the original 1911 and 1911A1 configurations would suit me fine.

If I'm gonna shoot them, I'll take the added comfort and control afforded by the textured grip and beaver-tail grip safety, along with an improved sight picture.

Since this thread is about true Govt. 1911s w/o beavertail, I'll submit one.

I don't see beauty. In the case of the "Old War Horses" they are sinister sexy weapons respected by many of us old soldiers and sailors.

I've always loved the look of them. I just recently ordered my first 1911 - Springfield TRP in black Armory Kote.

...and I'm already eyeballing and have mostly decided on my NEXT one....

The Springfield Champion Operator...

I haven't even had a taste and I think I'm already addicted... this can't be good.

Yes, I agree and I have many customers that feel the same way.
Here's one of my favorites, my favorite carry 1911 is a custom commander that's very much like the gun in this picture accept it has a commander ring style hammer.
Best Regards

Wow, thats a heck of a fine polishing job.

If someone makes a post questioning Colt quality, you should post that pic.

Jim, that one cost me a grand on 2010. Bought it with my C&R. It was modified lightly by having a target-type front sight installed so I got a deal, but everything else is 1918 Colt. The barrel is later 1918 production, but I actually found a correct 1918 barrel for....100 bucks! Good shape too. They are out there. If you don't have a C&R, consider it

I shoot it on July 4 each year, just 7 or 8 rounds. Still accurate. I change grips for the day, and that's it.

I couldn't agree more. Nothing looks better than a blued 70 series Colt 1911 with improved sights, a long trigger and a "right" sized thumb safety!
