We are wizards!

On the way back from the range today, my buddies and I got to talking about reloading. As the discussion went on, it suddenly struck me - we are all wizards!

Consider. We all have a dark lair of some description

We have a formidable set of arcane devices and frimframs

We have spellbooks

We have our spell reagents

Sometimes we conjure horrible abominations by accident

But usually we create something of beauty

It all makes sense!

I think Wizards are suppost to do it with a magic wand or some kind of spoken spell. I don't think reloading presses would qualify us for that status.

Yep... Turning lead into gold... That's the main thing.
I even use a preparation called "Universal Powder"...

Alchemist

I consider reloading to be more along the lines of alchemy. The alchemist was often working on changing base metals to gold or to discover the elixir of perpetual youth. His processes were focused on changing one thing into another; especially, the seemingly miraculous power or process of changing a thing into something better (tighter groups, less or more bang, flash, roar, etcetera).

I suppose it is the simplest form of rocketry, so it is Rocket Science.

Yeah, we're alchemists alright. We turn gold into loud noises and holes in paper.

Midway,Powder Valley and Wideners took all of my gold.

I think it depends on how smart you are in your approach to loading. The word "wizard" comes from the same root as "wise", so a wise-ard, as it were, would have to apply wisdom. The magic wands are mainly in the children's stories, though we handloaders do seem to have ones that often come with magazines.

I've been called something close to a wise-ard before, except the last two letters were different and both the same.
