Rossi lever actions

anyone have any experiance with the Rossi brand lever action rifles ? Quality etc etc ? I'm thinking about a .357 version , any opinions would be a help never had a Rossi don't know a thing about them

I've got a .45 Colt sitting at my transfer dealer right now waiting for me to pick it up.

One of my buddies has a .357 model and loves it.

I have one in .45 Colt & have never had a problem. Even dirty it has never failed to fire! It's a fun inexpensive gun!

I have a 24in stainless steel hex barrel in .357. I've enjoyed it a lot.
It shoots good with my 38 special reloads.
I put a tang sight on it which helps with distance shooting.
It's just a tad heavy for cowboy shooting.

I've got the 20" .357, too, but blue/cc. It was a little rough when I bought it a year or so ago, but use has smoothed it out a lot. I also put a tang sight on mine. It's a peach for metallic silhouettes - not so heavy that my arm gets tired, but not so light that it wavers around while I'm aiming. And 100% reliable. I've not had a single problem with it.

It's in the middle:

I bought the DVD from Stevez Gunz, but I never did any of the slicking up stuff. I did replace the bright yellow plastic follower in the magazine with a metal one from Steve, but that's it.

One of my friends has the 24" model in .44mag. His works just like mine, just a bigger bang.

I have the saddle ring carbine in .357/.38 that my daughter and I used when we started shooting CAS. It's slicked up by Steve Young a/k/a Nate Kiowa Jones http://www.stevesgunz.com/index.htm for cowboy action.

While it's not as fast as my latest pick-up (1866 with short stroke, etc.), it was (and still is) a great little rifle. I guess it's all in what you intend to do with it.

My daughter won the long range rifle in pistol caliber side match an at annual match ealier this year with this rifle (while Noz and I were chattin' on the side

-- but that's another story...). It's a good shooter and I've never had any problems with it. I'm probably going to sell it later this year; however, cuz daughter wants a '73 for CAS and I'll need to move it to get $$$ towards the purchase.

if your in the market for a lever action 45 or 357 the rossi is a v g sub for a mar and mabe better the winnies

All I can say is that I enjoy mine.

It is even better since they dropped the price on them about a year or two ago- when I bought my 2nd one. The price difference on the stainless ones isn't much more, and when compared with the new, New York made stainless Marlins- it's a winner in both function, price and value.

The first "gamer gun" that I remember the early top guns in SASS were using were slicked up Rossi short rifles. They have a 20" octagonal barrel that is heavier than the carbine and stays on target better due to the weight. Once the short stroke was developed (aluminum block, etc) the 66s & 73s took over. The Rossis are slicker out of the box than they used to be but I put a spring kit in one of mine (an SS) and it is like butter.
