Ruger P95?
I've kind of been looking for an affordable 9mm lately mainly just for the range and plinking. I've noticed that the P95s often go for under $300 and I like the 3 rugers I have now. So, does this ugly, inexpensive 9mm ruger quality at an affordable price? Also is it a better pick than the S&W SW9VE?

I love my p95. Its more accurate than I am. It will eat ne thing I put in it. And I have acctually started to like the way it looks. As to comparing it to the s&w I haven't shot one but it wasn't as comfortable in my hand as the p95. They're both good guns it really comes down to which one fits u better for me it was the ruger.

I'm a big fan of the P95 as well, there's no better value on the market, IMO.

The P95 has a much better trigger than the Sigma. The DA/SA of the Ruger is fairly good. The Sigma's big flaw has always been it's 10+lb. DAO trigger. Although you can learn to shoot it well it's trigger makes thing more challenging to say the least.

Can't go wrong with the P95. It is inexpensive, reliable, accurate, and easy to shoot. I can't think of a better all-purpose home defense/range gun for the money. I picked up mine very lightly used for $230.00. Can't beat that. As others have said, the trigger is decent - actually I find it to be very good. The only legitimate gripe that has been levied against the P95 is that it is heavy and bulky. This is true, and for that reason it isn't a good carry gun. However, that isn't why I bought mine. It serves its purpose flawlessly as a guardian of my bedroom who makes frequent jaunts to the local range.

I've had a P series and a sigma, like both for different reasons. The only thing similar about these guns is the price. New, the P95 costs a little more that the sigma.
Everyone is quick to point out the heavy trigger on the sigma, so I'll point this out: The ergonomics on the sigma are light years better than the P95. See what fits your hand best. Either gun will do just fine. |

I have one. Love it.
Shoots everything I feed it. Is accurate (more than me). Feels good in hand and I don't think it looks as bad as some people might say. |

I own a P89, and love it. Accurate and reliable. I saw a P95 for $325 and wanted it real bad, but alas, could not get it. If they shoot anything like the P89, I could describe the recoil like more of a roll than a kick. I really enjoy it.
I would definately get one if I were you and could afford it. I would definately get one if I were me and could afford it...Mmmm Last edited by wpcexpert; January 28, 2011 at 09:39 AM. |

The P95 is a solid, dependable choice for the money. Personally, I've shot both the P95 and the Sigma and the P95 has a much better trigger than the Sigma. Out of those two, go with the Ruger.

The P95 is ok. I bought mine on price and because its a Ruger. Very dependable, not so great ergonomics. Its kind of the Ford Taurus of hand guns. Dependable and American made, it does everything well, nothing exceptionally. Folks at Ruger are generally easy to deal with.
Great gun for a tight budget. If I had the Bucks, I'd probably lean toward the CZ 9mms. Also, look at the Bersa 9mms as well, but its tough to beat the value of the P95. Peachy |

As everything else here said, the Ruger P series is an incredible bargain. Rarely do you find rugged, solid reliability and quality materials/craftsmanship at such an affordable price.
Buy your P95 and have no regrets. |

I've owned two P95s, and will likely buy another whenever I come across one at a good price. Currently have a P89 and a P97. All good guns - big, chunky, clunky... but accurate and reliable. Wraparound grips are nearly a must for the polymer Rugers. They make a world of difference in the way the grip feels in your hand. Never owned a Sigma and doubt I ever will. Not that the Sigmas are bad pistols, I just don't care for 'em.

I am in the process of getting my pistol permit and the P95 is what I am getting. I shot the P89 and LOVED it. The P89 was actually my first choice in pistols but I could not find it anywhere. After reading reviews about the P95, watching youtube videos on it and holding it at the gun shop I fell in love with it. Plus the price point is awesome costing me 349.00. I was going to get a Beretta 92FS but as 599.00 was too much for me.
If you wiki the P series from Ruger you will see this gun was built to military specs. So it will stand the test of time and much a good combat pistol you can rely on. Cant beat that IMO. |

Add my name to the P95 rocks list.
My P95 shoots so easy it makes me smile everytime I shoot it. Accurate too. I bought mine used for $225. |

The p95 is a great value. I really like mine. It's accurate, well built and handles well. The only thing I didn't like was the ambidextrious mag release. I filed the one on the right hand side down flush so it didn't dig into my middle finger, then I touched it up to match with oxphoblue. I also added a hogue slip on grip for palm swell. I don't think anything comes close to the p95 in the budget $300 range. It is a really good value. Plus ruger stands behind their products and offers great customer service.

My P95 was the first pistol I ever owned, and probably the best in terms of reliability and durability. I even think it's good-looking.
Make sure it fits your hand, i.e. your trigger finger can easily reach the trigger. But if it fits, you will be very happy. |

The Rugers may not be as refined as some but they are dead reliable and tough as nails! The P97 was the 45acp equivalent of the P95 and is still one of the toughest, most reliable 45acps on the planet.

Ruger P-series in general and the best value out there. I've had two and they were outstanding guns.

I agree with Te Anau,
Both great guns and a great value, but they are apples and oranges. If you're set on the P95, I think you'll be very happy! |

Every thread I've ever seen concerning Ruger's P series has overwhelmingly been positive. Chalk me up + also with a P89DC that I've had for a dozen years or so. Hard to find a better value for the money. Yea, she's big boned and bulky but she won't let you down in a pinch.
