Freezer is full. Daughter got one, and I got one. The girls have tags left for late anlerless season in January, and want to try to make some sausage.

I filled my rifle tag, shot me a nice fawn like I do every year. It seems like we never eat enough deer meat and still have some left over from last year.

This probably ought to be in the hunting forum ...

All the same, I almost got skunked this year. Hunted Central NY and never saw a buck. Missed a doe (I'd like to be able to blame my scoped shotgun, but I haven't taken it back to the range to check zero, so it was probably just me) and saw several others, but they didn't present shots.

Here in PA I saw two bucks on opening day, a scrawny 3-point that was probably a 6, but one antler beam was completely gone ... and one that was clearly a 6-point, but even with my binoculars I couldn't tell whether or not he had brow tines. Since I'm in a must-have-four-points-on-one-side area, had to let him walk. Got busted by six does later in the season and never got a shot. Finally, 2:00 pm on the last day of gun I finally got a nice sized doe.

First year in several that I've not gotten a respectable buck, but I'm grateful for the time afield, and happy with venison in the freezer.

Theres 10 of us but we get 3 tags each, bow, rifle, muzzleloader. but this year I didnt have time to bow hunt and I gave away the meat from my muzzleloader tag to a friend who had an accident and cant work and he has 4 kids to feed.

I've taken 4 this year.

Season summary:

Skunked with the bow (2nd year in a row and the only 2 years in the last 10 that that's happened). Not liking that trend and determined to turn it around next Sept.

Took a good sized doe opening day of muzzleloader season. Took a good eating sized cull buck on the last day of muzzleloader season.

Took another similar sized cull buck the day before Thanksgiving. Shot it with my new to me Ruger M77MKII .308 with my 5 year old son sitting in the stand beside me. Took another small doe this passed Monday with the 11-87 and buckshot off a man-drive. Again my son was with me on that one. He's hooked now. Mission accomplished.........

Got 2 antlerless tags left and will hunt tomorrow and Tuesday through Saturday next week. Will probably have company the whole time too which is very cool.......

My gun season was lousy. I shot a button buck last thing opening day just to prevent the possibility of going the whole season without a deer, because I was hunting with my new Encore and really wanted to get something with it. Turned out to be a good thing as I didn't see anything shootable all season.

Bow season went well, I shot a small doe and a HUGE doe, and I mean H-U-G-E. It didn't end so well though.... the day before gun started, I hit a smallish buck, 4 or 6 point, and did not recover the dear. I really hate that.

Coolness Level of getting a kid hooked on hunting:

Q:How to best describe it's level of coolness?

A:Just slightly less cool than watching the same kid drop their first deer a few years later, without any assistance from you at all.

You have so much to look forward to!

This season has been good and bad for me. Good because I shot my first "good" buck, a perfectly semetrical 8 pt. Small by most standards, maybe scored 115, but by far my best. He was also my first muzzleloader kill, at 123 yds.
It was also a bad season because I lost a very nice tall tined, heavy 6 pt, an old deer that was not getting any bigger. Hit him, and by all signs it was a vital hit, but not where it should have been and I lost him despite hours of looking.
Also killed three freezer fillers, a button buck, spike, and a big doe with the bow.

We had a pretty good year. I got 4 a nice 8pt. and three does. My dad got 2 bucks. My son got his first buck and a doe. Everyone has got meat in the freezer and we gave one to my dad's old hunting partner who can't get out anymore due to age.

Had a really good deer season this year. seen alot of critters and seen more shooters this year than last. Killed a pig with my bow then shot a double main beam 10 during the pre rut. exactly one week later shot a 130 inch 9 off the same stand. Biggest buck ive taken to this day. seen a few bigger this year but thats huntin. Also shot a 9 point befor I shot the double main beam, but just wounded him. luckily my neightbor ran acroos him the next day and killed him. maybe a 125-130.
