Cleaning lube from lead bullets, and re-bluing M&P magazines
Hi, all. I have a couple of questions this time.
Before my primary caster moved away (which sucks, because his prices were cheaper than anywhere else, and his turnaround times were great!), I stocked up with 8,000 rounds of 9mm. For whatever reason, this time his bullets are quite messy with lube. I'm not sure why his last batch was this way, but it is what it is. To avoid the extra lube gumming up my dies, etc. I've been cleaning the bullets by hand (wiping the excess lube off on a cloth), which is a time consuming process, not to mention a severe PITA. Anyone have any thoughts on a faster, more efficient way to clean these bullets? I'll be cleaning them until doomsday otherwise. I've also got some rust appearing on my M&P9 magazines. I'm not sure why, as I try to take good care of them, but for whatever reason, they are starting to rust. Would stripping the mags and re-bluing them be a good idea? Has anyone else with an M&P noticed this happening? Cheers! McClintock |

Had a similar issue with a couple batches of cast bullets (i believe one each of 9mm and 45-70 if memory serves). As long as it isnt covering the area of the bullet that comes in direct contact with the seating die, I load as normal and check the die for build up every 30 rds or so (granted this is easier said than done if you dont use LnL bushings, so use your best judgment). Lastly, wipe the excess away as they come off the press.
As for the M&P magazines, I have not yet encountered a rust problem but you probably dont need to strip the whole thing (unless you where planning on making an afternoon of it, in which case more power to you). Removing the rust with some steel wool and then re-bluing the affected area would suffice. |
