Another basic question about Savage rifles

Is the bolt handle on Savage rifles a one-piece design or is the handle just welded to the bolt (like a Remington)?

Specifically I am looking at the model 10 precision carbine.

Thanks.

The bolt is not 1 piece design.. You can change out the handles...

I have the SSS Tac bolt knob on my 6X47. I like the design much better than the Savage one. Easy to install took about a minute to do, but you might need a vice as the allen screw was tight.

OK...how does the handle attach to the bolt? Is it welded? Or is it attached using a nut? Sorry for my ignorance.

Go to the link provided by .300 Weatherby Mag and click on the "Bolt Parts" link. You will see a series of aftermarket Savage bolt handles.

The Savage bolt handle fits onto two ears that project from the aft end of the bolt and is held in place by a large threaded allen bolt.

The beauty of the Savage bolt design is the bolt head is replaceable and upper/lower lugs bear evenly.

If you want to change caliber from small case head to large/magnum case head, unscrew the allen screw, pull out the firing pin sleeve, firing pin/spring, head cross pin and the bolt head and baffle come off. It sounds more complicated than it is. You can change between small/medium/magnum bolt heads in 5 minutes.
