Help me pick out rings for new rifle/scope
I am getting the Savage Mark II BTVS with a Leupold VX-II 3-9 X 40 .
This is going to be my first rifle and I am not sure how to pick out the rings to mount the scope with. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance |

I'd stay away from anything cheaper than Weavers, but two-piece Weavers have worked just fine for me on quite a few rifles for some sixty years. Conetrols are a lot prettier, although more complex--but they've been on my Sako .243 for forty years. IOW, by and large, brand is unimportant.
For recoil of no more than a .30-'06, aluminum bases work okay. I'd go with steel for Big Thumpers. Odds are with that scope, low rings and bases will work. |

I usually go with Leupold and prefer the double dovetails. Still, I just got a new Savage and went with Weaver brand and type matte Grandslam extension bases and standard medium rings. Savages often require extension bases (or rings) to get the right eye relief. Anyway, the fit, finish and alignment of these Grandslam bases and rings was perfect. They don't cost an arm and a leg either.

PRW's
I like these. Rock solid and same brand as your scope........what a co-inky dink.

I've been using a lot of the Burris signature rings. They have the inner lopsided plastic ring that allows you to true the scope close to POI without using up the scope's inner travel. There are different amounts of adjustment variations rings with a stock 0, +5, +10, +15, etc.

I'm seeing pictures showing the scope rings directly mounted to the Savage Mark II BTVS
![]() Am I ok with using the existing mounts and just getting rings? If so, which rings would you recommend for the existing mounts? |
