rented some pistols today

Went to the Range today and rented an HK P2000, a Glock 26, a Springfield XD sub compact, and the new Ruger SR9C. All these were in 9mm calibers.
I have always thought the Ruger pistols feel cheap and plasticky and poorly assembled, but after shooting this one today I've changed my mind totally. I shot the Ruger better than any of the others, although the G26 was very close.
I love the way the Ruger feels in my hand, the recoil is very low, and it never missed a beat. I also think it's a good looking gun. And at $400, it's tough to beat. I just wonder how it would hold up after thousands of rounds at the range. I been looking for a 9mm that's a little smaller than my G19, and the Ruger is. The HK is as well, but for all that money I can buy 2 Rugers. Plus I don't shot the HK very well for some reason.
I'm gonna do a little more research on this Ruger SR9C, it may be replacing my unreliable Sig P238.

That Ruger is a sweet little pistol. Really enjoyed shooting the one I rented.

What led you to that prior impression of Rugers? I've always thought of them as very rugged, durable, reliable guns that don't quite have the fit and finish and overall refinement of some of the higher-end semi-autos. The last thing I'd worry about with a (non-mousegun) Ruger is how it would hold up to abuse. The SR9c seemed very sturdy to me.

rugers are overbuilt and it depends how you'll use it, carry, range or sd firearm.

if you shot the g26 so well it's smaller/lighter and you might want to rent a g27, which can use a lonewolf conversion barrel to 9mm(you'll need 9mm mags), add a 357 sig barrel(uses the same 40 mags) and a 22 conversion kit for 4 firearms in one package.

The first thing that led me to that prior opinion was simply holding the original SR9 in my hand. I thought it felt junky, unfinished, and very rough around the edges. But I never shot one. That was just a feeling I got when I'd pick one up. Plus the cheap price made me think it probably wasn't too good.
But I got to the range today and this SR9C was in the rental case. I had never even considered looking twice at this gun, until I noticed it's size how attractive I thought it was. So I had the guy get it out. I couldn't believe how good it felt in my hand. Then the guy proceeds to tell me what a good shooter it is and that Ruger pistols are very durable. So I decided to try it out. Glad I did, cause I love it.

And I did not know that about the G27 and all those barrel options. That's amazing. What do those kits cost though?

I've always been a firm believer in getting what's tight for you.

Price tag and status have nothing to do with it. If the Ruger is what works best for you, then by all means, get the Ruger.

Simply put, carry what you shoot best.

The "best" gun is the one YOU like, not anyone else. It will be a compromise of:

1. Fit - It should fit in your hand like you were born with it there.
2. Reliability - It should go BANG about 99.8% of the time you pull the trigger.
3. Accuracy - In YOUR hand. It's how well YOU shoot it.
4. Concealability - It should be comfortable enough to wear and easy enough to conceal so you won't leave it laying on the dresser at home.
5. Cost - You don't want to scrimp on your "life protector" weapon, but you probably don't need a $1,000 Kimber, either.

I think Ruger musta hit a homer with that gun. I'm finding that every gun shop I frequent is sold out of it, and word of mouth about the gun is really good so far.
